JTV Sports Quick Focus: Stewart, CCHS Have Numbers and Bigger Expectations This Season

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (April 6, 2022 5:33 PM) It would have been easy for the Columbia Central High School varsity soccer team to pack it in last season.  The Golden Eagles had a new coach and played with less than 11 players during a number of games. But CCHS player Alyssa Stewart said a little motivation went a long way during the difficult season. The Golden Eagles don’t have that problem this year. Stewart, a junior, joins 21 other players and CCHS has Jackson College Coach Andy Hosmer back to lead the team. The Golden Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 win over Jackson Christian on Tuesday night at JCHS. Stewart scored a hat trick in the win. “Our team has some really good numbers,” Stewart said after the win. “We have some new girls who have never played before and are stepping up.” Stewart, who has been playing the sport basically as early as she can remember, said last year was a learning experience. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 39,361 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 550 Deaths

(April 6, 2022 12:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 39,361 positive cases (cumulative), and 550 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 11 new cases since yesterday’s report.    Beginning today,  case counts and statistics will only be updated once a week.  The JCHD's next report will be on April 13. The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021.  Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts.  As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community.  Cumulative recovered, as of April 6:  38,559** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. Extreme Dodge Jackson County Sports Scoreboard April 5, 2022

Baseball Jackson 14, Lansing Eastern 0: Nathanial Hobbs pitched a no-hitter for Jackson in game one, striking out 17 batters. The Vikings scored eight runs in the fifth inning thanks to a double by Kaspar Haehnle. Hobbs finished with two hits at the plate. Jackson did not commit any errors in the contest.  Jackson 13, Lansing Eastern 0: Michael Foust pitched a complete game for Jackson. Parker Deer and Michael Kirby had key hits in a six-run second inning for Jackson (2-0).  Michigan Center 4, Northwest 2: Noah Mast and Reid Scaife had two hits apiece for the Cardinals.  Northwest 8, Michigan Center 1: The Mounties scored eight times in the first three innings in the home win.  Dansville 4 Napoleon 2: The Pirates dropped its season-opening game on the road. Game two between the two teams was halted after four innings due to darkness.  Concord 8, East Jackson 3: Lewis Fritz had three hits and knocked in a pair of runs for the Yellow Jackets.
