Jackson County Fair.  Superhero Day:  Dress as Your Favorite Superhero.  Gates open at 11 AM.  Rides open at 2 PM.  3 PM:  4-H & Pony Championship and Awards.   2 PM and 6 PM:   Penelope Magic Show.   Grandstand Show, 6:30 PM:  Worship Night.  Three local churches unite for an inspiring evening of music, worship, and community in the grandstands! Come celebrate faith together at the Jackson County Fair. Free admission into the grandstand. Gov. Whitmer Announces 182 New Jobs, Three Business Expansions in Jackson and West Michigan 

The VA-120 Vantage long-endurance vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aircraft pictured on the Vertical Autonomy website.  (August 11, 2026 12:12 AM ET) Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced three new small business expansion announcements in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties, Berrien and Kalamazoo Counties, and Kent County that will result in more than $42.2 million in capital investment, creating at least 182 new jobs. “Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects in next-generation industries like defense and medical manufacturing,” said Governor Whitmer. “These three business expansions will create 182 new good-paying jobs and help cement Michigan as the best place to chase the next big idea. Let’s keep working together to show the world that Michigan is the best place to build the future.” Vertical Autonomy, a Michigan-based unmanned systems company that designs, manufactures, and operates advanced vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) autonomous aircraft and supporting autonomy systems, has announced plans to establish a centralized manufacturing and operations hub in Jackson County and upgrade existing infrastructure in Hillsdale County. As a newly formed organization resulting from the acquisition of unmanned aircraft assets and intellectual property formerly held by L3Harris, Vertical Autonomy is seeking to consolidate and relocate key operational assets currently located in California and Arizona to Michigan. Join JAFTA on Tuesday, August 11, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Horace Blackman Park for another round of local food trucks, sweets, coffee, cold treats, and summer lunch energy right in the heart of downtown. Tuesdays have been part of downtown Jackson summers since 2018, and every event is built by the people who show up, grab lunch, support local, and keep downtown moving. Mark Egly and L.P. (Chuck) Smith are 2026 Inductees into Jackson Golf Hall of Fame

(August 5, 2026 11:45 AM ET) Two longtime club professionals have been selected as this year’s inductees into the Jackson Golf Hall of Fame. Jackson native Mark Egly, recognized as one of the top teaching professionals in Iowa, and the late L.P. (Chuck) Smith, former head pro at the Country Club of Jackson, will push the Jackson Golf Hall of Fame membership to 75 when they are inducted in ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at Sharp Park Golf Course. The public is invited to the induction ceremony at no charge. “These two men have had a huge impact on golf in Jackson and far from Jackson,” Hall of Fame committee chair Elaine Crosby said in announcing the committee’s selections. “Their work in promoting golf has helped thousands of people enjoy the game, and their positive influence will be felt for years to come.” Egly, who graduated from Lumen Christi High School in 1973, has earned numerous honors for his work as a PGA member of the Iowa Section since 1983.
