(April 22, 2023 10:22 PM ET) For the fifth consecutive time, the Kit Young Bulldogs defeated the Napoleon Pirates combined boys/girls team in basketball.
Both Napoleon teams were conference champions in their respective leagues in 2023.
But not many on the Napoleon side seemed too alarmed.
The basketball game was a charity event giving the Kit Young Bulldogs – a school for young adults with cognitive impairments – a chance to show off their basketball skills to a large audience at Napoleon High School.
Kit Young pulled off the upset with a 64-30 win over the Pirates.
Charity was the big winner in the contest as more than $2,000 was raised for Jackson County Special Olympics and the Rainbow Connection.
Justin and Alyssa Hritzak, both NHS graduates, chose the Rainbow Connection as one of the recipients for fundraising efforts at the game.
Their son, Bennett King, was born in 2017 and faced many medical challenges in his five year life. He passed away Sept. 14, 2022, after a five-month bone marrow transplant journey.
Rainbow Connection granted Bennett’s wish to go to an NBA game last January. The family said it was a memory they will cherish forever.
They hope that the donation will allow other families to make their own priceless memories.
Money was raised through ticket sales, basket ticket sales, and a 50/50 drawing.
