Airport Control Tower in Jeopardy

Superintendent Extends Stay

Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Dan Evans has extended his retirement date to the end of the current school year.  At last night's board meeting, the board asked him to postpone his earlier announced retirement date of December, 2013.  Among other board actions, the district hired Scott Farley from Leslie High School as the new varsity football coach.  Other guests today:  Kathy Fischer, Director of Kids N Stuff Children's Museum of Albion;  Paul Hocter from Paul's X-Factor Fitness;  Jackson Area Career Center Cosmetology students Tobey Ramsdell and Brooke Landis;  Singer-guitarist Debi Jordan;  Lumen Christi Drama Director Justin Marcero with students from "Godspell", Karl Berkemeier and Michael Haynes.  "Godspell" will be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 PM at Lumen Christi;  Big Brothers Big Sisters match of the month with Michelle Young and her "little", Jade.

New Habitat for Humanity Director

New Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Shelly Hendrick was introduced on today's show.  Patrick Burtch, Jackson City Manager discussed the reasoning behind the new refuse ordinance passed last night by the city council.  Jackson County Spotlight focused on Emergency Management;  Barbara Baird-Pauli, principal of Jackson High School and John Waldron, event chair shared plans of the annual JHS Ambassador Dinner March 22;  Vandercook Lake High School students Nathan Johnson, Tyler Petress and Tricia Parmalee with "The Music Man" this weekend and next;  Pet of the Week with Kathy Brafford.

Walk for Warmth Raises $15,000

Consumers Energy partnered with the Community Action Agency on last month's Walk for Warmth fundraiser and Dan Bishop reported more than $15,000 raised by participants.  Dan also discussed the company's latest Clean Energy Initiatives and recent economic development activity.  Other guests today include:  United Way's Jim Brian and Dan Salerno from the Food Bank of South Central Michigan;  Jackson Symphony Orchestra Assistant Conductor David Schultz with a preview of this Saturday's concert;  Russ Jennings from McThirsty's;  Jeff Mazur and Stan Mazur unveil the Kiwanis Club Flowering Tree Project.

Physician Practice Expands to New Building

Dr. Donna O'Neill announced the opening of the community's independent Infectious Disease medical practice in a new building on property previously owned by Jackson Public Schools.  Dr. O'Neill was joined by JPS Superintendent Dan Evans to unveil "The Evans", the new building on the site of Amy Firth School on N. Elm Street.  Other guests include:  Tom Nolte with the Grass Lake Chamber of Commerce Spring Expo;  Kate Manville-Schwartz and Tiffany Bond from In Good Company Restaurant;  a preview of "Garden of Joy", the Wharton Center production about the Harlem Renaissance. Producer Bert Goldstein and cast members talk about the weekend show and we look in on a rehearsal.
