Dunigan Brothers Celebrate Milestones

Mayoral Candidate’s Focus on Roads and Neighborhoods

John Wilson, candidate for Jackson mayor, brought his campaign to today's Bart Hawley Show.  Wilson said his focus as mayor would be improving the condition of the city's streets and neighborhoods.  Wilson would work toward resumption of leaf pickup and street cleaning should he be elected.  The candidate is focusing his campaign on door to door visits of registered voters.  Wilson also said the number one priority of the city should be the safety of the citizens.  He would like to see more "boots on the street" from the Jackson Police Department and the Department of Public Works.  Wilson faces four challengers in the August 4th primary.  Incumbent mayor Jason Smith is not seeking re-election.

Pedal & Whine Returns

Mike Woizeschke, Cascades Cycling Club and Alex Cash, Fitness Council of Jackson invited bike riders to sign up for the 3rd annual Pedal & Whine event August 1st on today's Bart Hawley Show. Enjoy one of Michigan's premier cycling events combined with a visit to southern Michigan's finest winery.  The 3rd annual Pedal & Whine Bike Tour takes place on August 1st in rural Jackson County around the beautiful country side surrounding Grass Lake, Michigan.  The tour combines an enjoyable bike ride on country paved roads along with a visit to Sandhill Crane Vineyards  http://www.sandhillcranevineyards.com/ .  Routes of 8, 16, 36 and 62 miles will be available.  Riders may select any of the route lengths or combine routes for added distance. Adventure out on the 16, 36 or 62 mile routes and enjoy snacks at our Pleasant Lake sag stop, or opt for a shorter scenic 8 mile route to explore the country roads around the vineyards.  Registrants will enjoy a chef created lunch and relax in the ambience of Sandhill Crane Vineyards. United Way’s Boat Race Seeks Entries

The 4th Annual "What Floats Your Cardboard Boat" Race has been scheduled for September 11, 2015 at the Urban Fisheries Pond at Cascades Falls.  This is the kickoff for the annual campaign. The primary purpose of United Way of Jackson County’s “What Floats Your Cardboard Boat?” Race is to have some BIG FUN while kicking off fall fundraising efforts to better our community. Human powered boats made entirely of cardboard will race around the new Urban Fisheries Pond at Cascades Park and compete for trophies in individual heats. It is all happening on Friday, September 11th starting at 4:00 p.m.  In the event of lightning the race will be held Saturday, Sept 12th. Guests Beth Shafer from the United Way and Dave Turk from the Walton Insurance Group on The Bart Hawley Show rolled out a new aspect to the boat race, a theme. All boats must be based off a storybook.  They are hoping this will encourage creativity and introduces a new way to earn an award. Update on Downtown Projects

Jackson City Manager Patrick Burtch reported on progress of various downtown and city construction projects on today's Bart Hawley Show.  Dunigan Brothers is the general contractor on the Michigan Avenue infrastructure project and is slightly ahead of schedule.  Dunigan Brothers was awarded the flat-work and sidewalk contract which will begin late in the summer.  Construction on the new parking lot between Pearl Street and Glick Highway is running three weeks behind schedule due to equipment and supply delays.  The Hotel Hayes developer continues their due diligence and Burtch is optimistic the project has a good chance of beginning next year.
