Michigan Community Credit Union Zombies Invade Community

Michigan Community Credit Union is pleased to announce that they have donated a $500 sponsorship to Zombie Walk Jackson, a 5k event in which all proceeds go to the March of Dimes. The walk was held on October 10, where Michigan Community Credit Union was present and participated in the walk. The March of Dimes supports research aimed at preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Participating in Zombie Walk Jackson is in conjunction to Michigan Community Credit Union’s Zombie Green Checking Promotion, which includes a dividend rate of 0.25% APR with no minimum balance and monthly opportunities to earn the bonus dividend of 1.75% APY. The Zombies of Michigan Community Credit Union will also make an appearance at BP Gas Station on Page Avenue October 21 at 10:30 a.m. to pump free gas! Karen Richard Named “Person of Achievement”

Karen Richard has been selected by Jackson Business and Professional Women as the 2015 Person of Achievement. She received the award and honor at the Business and Professional Women/Michigan at the annual fall state board meeting, held at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center in Flint, MI, on Saturday, October 17, 2015.  She is a Jackson BPW member.  In 2013, she was honored by the Jackson BPW as the recipient of the NIKE award, an award given to a woman owned business in the area. Karen owns the Jackson Culver's Restaurant and a Culver's in Ann Arbor.  She is on the board of the Intermediate School District (ISD) Culinary Department. She has been a member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce for nine years and is currently on the Board and the Executive Board of the Chamber. She has been a member of the Jackson Chamber MLK Diversity Committee and an active participant in the Middle School Challenge Day project.  She has served on the American Red Cross Board of Directors and is an active sponsor of the Jackson Junior Golf Association and the 100 Women Who Care. Ribbon Cutting at Jackson Candy and Fudge Factory

The new ‘old fashioned’ Jackson Candy and Fudge Factory, 1522 E. Michigan Ave., Jackson invites you to celebrate their opening with a Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 4:00 pm with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.  Ribbon Cutting guests can sign up to be entered into a drawing for a ó pound box of our Cherry Cheesecake featured fudge! Michigan Community Credit Union Presents “Find the Fiesta”

Michigan Community Credit Union has purchased and fully wrap-branded a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The Credit Union is promoting a hashtag, a word or phrase preceded by a hash or pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic for social media use, on the vehicle; #FindtheFiesta (Find the Fiesta). This hashtag was created as a fun and different way to interact and engage with the public. When the branded Fiesta is spotted out in the community, the Credit Union is welcoming the public to take a photo and post on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, or Instagram using the custom hashtag, #FindtheFiesta. Of those that post using this hashtag, one winner will be randomly chosen to win a $50 gift card and will be notified via social media. Winners are not required to be Michigan Community Credit Union member. The first winner will be randomly chosen in December of 2015. “We’re thrilled to bring Find the Fiesta promotion to our members and the public,” said Liz Hoffius, Marketing Manager of Michigan Community Credit Union. “This is a new and exciting way to engage with people in the community and on social media.”

Consumers Energy Hosting Electronics & Computer Recycling Event

Whether you're making room for a new "football-ready" TV, or you're just doing a bit of cleaning, stop by Consumers Energy’s Parnall complex on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and recycle your old appliances and electronics. The address is 1945 Parnall Road. This year, Consumers Energy is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity and Valley City Recycling. Volunteers from both organizations will be on hand to help handle your recyclables. In addition, we are making a donation of $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity and will add 20 cents for every pound of electronics recycled. Last year, we donated $1,300 to Habitat for Humanity and know we can beat that this year. As part of our Appliance Recycling Program, we are offering $50 rebates for eligible refrigerators and freezers and $15 rebates for eligible window air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Center for Family Health’s Terry Langston Honored with National Award

Terry Langston, communications and development officer at the Center for Family Health, has been honored by a national organization for his advocacy for community health centers. Langston received the Elizabeth K. Cooke Grassroots MVP Award from the National Association of Community Health Centers for his “constant effort and unflagging persistence as an advocate for America’s health centers and health-center patients.” Molly Kaser, president and CEO of the Center for Family Health, said Langston is exceptionally skilled at working with state and federal lawmakers of all political viewpoints to convey the social and financial benefits of federally qualified health centers. “Terry is an outstanding advocate for community health centers,” Kaser said. “He has been able to forge connections with elected officials and he communicates very effectively with them. We’re so very happy that Terry is part of our staff.”

MCCU Awards $5,000 to Columbia Elementary School

Michigan Community Credit Union was honored to be a sponsor and to be present at Childrenz Challenge for a second year. Childrenz Challenge is a muddy obstacle course designed for children ages 4-13 years of age. Two courses were within the event; ages 4-8 competed on a 1 ½ mile course, and ages 9-13 competed on a 2 mile course. “We are so thrilled to be a part of an event that promotes a fun and active lifestyle for children. My son has participated the last two years and loved it,” said Tina Hamilton, CEO of Michigan Community Credit Union. Childrenz Challenge held the Michigan Community Credit Union School Challenge, which awards the top four schools that have the most participating students, based on percentage, with prize money. Childrenz Challenge awarded fourth place with $500 to Ezra Eby Elementary, third place with $1,000 to George Long Elementary, and second place with $1,500 to Queens Elementary.
