MIS Cares to Select 10 High School Seniors to Receive Scholarships

So MIS Cares is hoping to make it a little easier for 10 Jackson and Lenawee County students taking the next step in furthering education.  As part of an ongoing initiative to promote learning among students at all educational levels, MIS Cares will award $1,000 scholarships to 10 deserving high school seniors in 2016. Five students will be chosen from Lenawee County and five students will be selected from Jackson County. In 2015, the speedway awarded scholarships to five students who have enjoyed achievement in their first semester of college after a successful high school career. The scholarship is open to any graduating senior in Jackson or Lenawee County who is entering a STEAM-related (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) field at a college or university in Michigan. MIS Cares awards $87,525 in cash grants to local charities

Speedway donates nearly $916,567 in cash and contributions in 2015                                                                                                                                                                                              BROOKLYN, Mich. (November 17, 2015) – The spirit of giving isn’t just a seasonal belief at Michigan International Speedway; it’s the racetrack’s way of doing business, giving back to the community while providing a valuable fund-raising platform for the community year-round. MIS and its sister company Americrown combined donated a total of $916,567 to local service groups and organizations through cash donations, work programs, grants and sponsorships, as well as tickets and merchandise that clubs raffle to raise money. In 2015 alone, Michigan International Speedway and its catering and concession partner Americrown along with MIS Cares donated or paid out more than $682,630.82 to local charities and service groups through cash donations and work programs. But more, MIS Cares, the speedway’s charity arm, awarded a record $87,525 in cash donations to local charities through its grant program during the track’s annual Community Luncheon on Tuesday. Representatives from all the charities attended, picking up “big” checks. Recipients include: Adrian College and MIS developed Track and Explore, a first-of-its kind science center and science-related field trips to benefit area middle school students. Ventilator Race to Raise Funds for Special Camp

Jackson College respiratory care students will race to raise funds for Camp Michi-MAC in a “5K” Ventilator Race at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 in front of Justin Whiting Hall. To commemorate National Respiratory Care Week, Oct. 25-31, students will race in teams around the front circle drive of Justin Whiting Hall pushing ventilator machines. There will be prizes best decorated vent. Individuals or groups may sponsor a team per lap (one lap equals one “kilometer”) or for the total race, five laps. Students have established an online Go Fund Me account at https://www.gofundme.com/jc6sqqf4 for those wishing to donate. Apple cider and donuts will be provided during the event. Camp Michi-MAC, a camp for children with asthma, is conducted at the Skyline Camp and Retreat Center, located in Almont, Lapeer County, Mich. Campers can have a “regular” camp experience because the medical team, who are on site 24 hours a day, understands asthma and allergies, triggers and proper treatment. First Robotics Teams Seeks New Members

The Jackson Area Career Center’s FIRST Robotics team – the Jacktown Vectors – is looking for students and adults with diverse talents to be part of this year’s robot build and competitions.  Organizers will hold an informational meeting for interested students, parents, and mentors on Monday, November 9th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Career Center.  “This is open to all high school students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and math,” said John Riedeman, Career Center instructor and FIRST Robotics team coordinator.   Students interested in designing, building and problem-solving with an engineering focus will enjoy this group, but also needed are students interested in business and communications to promote the team, create a web site, create graphics, produce t-shirts and banners, and organize fund raising activities.  Adults are needed as mentors to coach students, and business professionals are needed as team sponsors.  The robot building is scheduled to start Saturday, January 9, with completion in late February. Michigan Community Credit Union Zombies Invade Community

Michigan Community Credit Union is pleased to announce that they have donated a $500 sponsorship to Zombie Walk Jackson, a 5k event in which all proceeds go to the March of Dimes. The walk was held on October 10, where Michigan Community Credit Union was present and participated in the walk. The March of Dimes supports research aimed at preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Participating in Zombie Walk Jackson is in conjunction to Michigan Community Credit Union’s Zombie Green Checking Promotion, which includes a dividend rate of 0.25% APR with no minimum balance and monthly opportunities to earn the bonus dividend of 1.75% APY. The Zombies of Michigan Community Credit Union will also make an appearance at BP Gas Station on Page Avenue October 21 at 10:30 a.m. to pump free gas! Karen Richard Named “Person of Achievement”

Karen Richard has been selected by Jackson Business and Professional Women as the 2015 Person of Achievement. She received the award and honor at the Business and Professional Women/Michigan at the annual fall state board meeting, held at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center in Flint, MI, on Saturday, October 17, 2015.  She is a Jackson BPW member.  In 2013, she was honored by the Jackson BPW as the recipient of the NIKE award, an award given to a woman owned business in the area. Karen owns the Jackson Culver's Restaurant and a Culver's in Ann Arbor.  She is on the board of the Intermediate School District (ISD) Culinary Department. She has been a member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce for nine years and is currently on the Board and the Executive Board of the Chamber. She has been a member of the Jackson Chamber MLK Diversity Committee and an active participant in the Middle School Challenge Day project.  She has served on the American Red Cross Board of Directors and is an active sponsor of the Jackson Junior Golf Association and the 100 Women Who Care. Michigan Community Credit Union Presents “Find the Fiesta”

Michigan Community Credit Union has purchased and fully wrap-branded a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The Credit Union is promoting a hashtag, a word or phrase preceded by a hash or pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic for social media use, on the vehicle; #FindtheFiesta (Find the Fiesta). This hashtag was created as a fun and different way to interact and engage with the public. When the branded Fiesta is spotted out in the community, the Credit Union is welcoming the public to take a photo and post on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, or Instagram using the custom hashtag, #FindtheFiesta. Of those that post using this hashtag, one winner will be randomly chosen to win a $50 gift card and will be notified via social media. Winners are not required to be Michigan Community Credit Union member.
