New Veterans Center at Jackson College to Hold Open House

Jackson College will host an Open House for veterans in the Veterans Resource Center, Room 235, Bert Walker Hall on Central Campus from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22. Current and future veterans students may learn about benefits, services available, the Student Veterans of America group and more. Meet Veterans Affairs Certifying Official Elizabeth Snell and the new Veterans Resource Representative Randall Locke. Refreshments available. Cascades Hosts Couples Golf & Comedy Night

Cascades Golf Course will be hosting a Couples Golf And Comedy Night featuring comedian Jay Harris on Friday, September 23.  Your're invited for an afternoon and evening of golf, dinner and comedy at Cascades Golf Course.   The format:  9 hole, 4 person scramble, followed by a catered dinner and entertainment featuring comedian Jay Harris.  You may sign up your own 4-some or sign up as a 2-some and Cascades will pair you with another couple.  Small prizes will be given to winning teams and for proximity contests. The shotgun start at 4:30, followed by dinner and entertainment, ending at approximately 9:00.  Cost: $80.00 per couple.  Includes 9 holes with cart, prizes, catered dinner, and entertainment.  Entry deadline:  September 19.  Space limited to the first 20 couples to sign up. Baker College to Offer Career Exploration Open House

Baker College of Jackson will open its doors to the public, prospective students and students 4:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, for a Career Exploration Open House at 2800 Springport Road, Jackson. The event will explore Baker College undergraduate programs that lead to careers with growing employment opportunities in the areas of: Business administration. Computer information systems. Engineering/technology. Health sciences. Nursing Human services. There will also be giveaways, and Baker College staff members will be grilling hot dogs for attendees. “This is a one-stop opportunity for people who are considering higher education to obtain their career goals,” said Steve Simpson, Ed.D., Baker College of Jackson president. “Industry experts and faculty will be available to provide insight into each career field and program, perform demonstrations and answer questions.” For each of the career programs offered at the Jackson campus, there will be information about employment opportunities, job responsibilities, salary estimates, the needed or desired professional qualifications and educational requirements. Jackson County Fair Opens Sunday

 photo by Ryan Kerwin, JTV The 163rd Jackson County Fair opens Sunday, August 7 at the County Fairgrounds on Ganson Street in Jackson.  The opening entertainment act is comedian Jeff Dunham.  Tickets are still available and day of show prices are $44, $57 and $79.  Tickets can be purchased for this and all acts at the Fair Office, online at etix.com or by phone at 517-788-4405. Opening day is Preview Day with reduced gate admission as carnival rides do not begin operating until Monday.  4-H judging begins with rabbits, horses, ponies and sheep.  A flag raising ceremony to start the fair will be held at 2pm. New this year is the Banana Derby with three shows daily.  Banana Derby features monkey jockeys racing atop dogs on a self-contained racetrack.   Other free shows include Elvis Tribute Show, South Central Woodcarvers and Classic Country. Grandstand entertainment events are Five Finger Death Punch on Monday, Nelly & Vanilla Ice on Tuesday, Twisted P Rodeo on Wednesday, Monster Trucks on Friday and Demo Derby/Enduro Cars wrapping up the week on Saturday. A Thousand Horses and Drake White and The Big Fire added to Keloorah Lineup

BROOKLYN, Mich. – The lineup for Keloorah in August just got bigger. A Thousand Horses (attached photo) and Drake White and The Big Fire have been added to an already jammed packed festival schedule on August 26-27. Jackson College Announces 2016-17 Potter Center Entertainment Lineup

Music, comedy, magic, stage shows and more await audiences in the 2016-17 Potter Center entertainment series announced today by Jackson College.  Tickets are on sale now at the Potter Center Box Office. This season’s performances include: Bill Engvall, Oct. 1, 2016, two shows, 5 & 8 p.m. – Bill Engvall is a top comedian and Grammy nominated, multi-platinum selling comedy recording artist. He starred in and executive produced his own self-titled sitcom on TBS, which ran for three seasons. He was part of the sketch comedy show, “Blue Collar TV,” which ran on the WB network, and the successful Blue Collar Comedy concert films, some of the most watched movies and specials in Comedy Central history. JTV’s “Pay What You Can” Kicks Off Michigan Shakespeare Festival

Productions includeAS YOU LIKE IT, RICHARD II, and the Civil War drama THE KILLER ANGELS, a play by Karen Tarjan based on Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about the Battle of Gettysburg. 46th Annual Rose Run July 16

The 46th Annual Rose Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 on the Jackson College Central Campus.  Sponsored by Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists, P.C., the Rose Run will again feature 10K and 5K runs, a 5K walk, and a Kids Run. Events will begin at 8 a.m. on the Jackson College campus. Adult events start and finish on the JC campus and follow a scenic course around the College. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each age group, in addition to overall, masters and grandmasters winners. All participants receive a T-shirt.   The cost for events is $25 in advance, $30 on race day. Kids Fun Run is $5 in advance, $7 on race day. Registration and packet pick-up will be available Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday morning before 7:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse.
