TCA brings Pure Michigan to the stage this summer with an extraordinary lineup of movies, music and comedy. The Black Box Summer Series is scheduled for the fourth Thursday of June, July, and August at 7:00 PM. Located in the cool and comfortable auditorium of the TCA, the series is sure to entertain and be a respite on those hot summer nights. Opening the series on June 25th is an exciting and compelling one hour documentary entitled "Our Fires Still Burn: The Native American Experience." The documentary has been positively reviewed by Booklist and is airing nationally on PBS. The film invites viewers into the lives of contemporary Native American role models living in the Midwest, particularly Michigan.  It dispels the myth that American Indians have disappeared from the American horizon, and reveals how they continue to persist, heal from the past, confront the challenges of today, keep their culture alive, and make great contributions to society. Their experiences will deeply touch both Natives and non-Natives and help build bridges of understanding, respect, and communication.   St. Luke Lutheran Church is hosting its annual Vacation Bible School on June 22nd through June 26th. Raptors will be the highlight at the Walker Tavern farmers market Sunday, June 7. The historic site near Brooklyn, Michigan, will offer a program featuring these birds of prey from 2 to 3 p.m. at the conclusion of the farmers market. “This will be a rare opportunity for the public to see some of these great hawks up close,” said Walker Tavern site historian Laurie Perkins. “The conservation and recovery group sponsoring the event helped to rescue a hawk at the historic site a few summers ago. Ever since, everyone has wanted to learn more about hawks.” The hawks only can be exhibited for a limited amount of time, so those planning to go to the event are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy the farmers market before the program begins. The program is free and open to the public. Walker Tavern is one of 11 nationally accredited museums administered by the Michigan Historical Center, an agency within the Department of Natural Resources. The farmers market at Walker Tavern Historic Site in Cambridge Junction Historic State Park (in Brooklyn, Michigan) opens for the season Sunday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. The market will continue every week into the fall, but will be closed two Sundays for race weekends at Michigan International Speedway June 14 and Aug. 16. The Friends of Walker Tavern will combine several of their most popular events with market Sundays. Opening weekend will feature tours of the recently renovated Hewitt House Visitors Center located within the park. Friends of Walker Tavern volunteers and Michigan Department of Natural Resources staff will be on hand to answer questions about the featured exhibit, “Summertime in Michigan’s Irish Hills.” The exhibit will open to the public Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the same hours Sunday. Other events that will coincide with the market in 2015 include: Sunday, May 31, from 2 to 4 p.m.: The Walker Wheels vintage “base ball” team opens its 2015 season against the Royal Oak Wahoos.
