The Annual 12 Hour Go Kart Race at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Michigan, will be held this Saturday, July 25, 2015. This prestigious karting event will begin with a 9:00 a.m. Drivers’ Meeting followed by the Opening Ceremonies and Race at 10:00 a.m., and ending at 10:00 p.m. to a spectacular fireworks show. BROOKLYN, Mich. (July 21, 2015) – NASCAR race fans and music festival fans both will have reasons to celebrate in August at Michigan International Speedway. Keloorah, a music festival experience, will take place on Friday and Saturday of the August Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend at MIS.  Seven music acts, spanning country and alternative rock, along with EDM deejays will perform at Keloorah.  “NASCAR fans and music festival fans came together in June to make the inaugural Keloorah an entertainment experience unparalleled at any other NASCAR event,” MIS President Roger Curtis said.  “Keloorah is a completely unique concept – a true music festival taking place at the same time as a NASCAR race weekend – that was developed to attract new fans to MIS who may not otherwise be aware of, or come to see, NASCAR. 13.1% or 13,180 people living in Lenawee County experience “food insecurity” in their everyday lives; among children in Lenawee County, the number is even higher, with 21.1% or 5,010 kids experiencing “food insecurity”. (Feeding America: Map the Meal Gap 2013) Food insecurity is not exclusive to Lenawee County, however, the solutions lie with those of us who live and work here. To this end, a group of committed volunteers have created an event to raise money to help end childhood hunger in Lenawee County. The Endless Feast, a grassroots endeavor to bring people together to support efforts to end childhood hunger in Lenawee County, will take place for the first time on Thursday, August 6, 2015. Limited seating is available for the dinner, featuring locally sourced foods prepared by Chef Alan Merhar from Evans Street Station in an outdoor waterfront setting at Tecumseh’s Globe Mill Pond. Purchasing a seat at the Endless Feast table will help bring awareness to the plight of local children who don’t have enough to eat. Tecumseh Center for the Arts presents local comedian, Steve Smargon on Thursday, July 23 at 7:00 pm, as the second performance in the Black Box Summer Series. Steve was the winner of the Tecumseh Center for the Arts’ "So You Think You're Funny?" Comedy Open Mic Night and will be joining local comedians Khurum Sheikh and Mike Neubecker during this jovial night of jokes and jests. Steve has been performing stand-up for seven years, and has opened for Michael Winslow, Police Academy and recently headlined for a Veterans Day show, at the Michigan Theater in Jackson, Michigan.  Steve is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, performs in clubs and colleges all across the country and is known in the comedy universe as, “The Bipolar Marine.” Steve also opened for TCA’s recent comedy show featuring, Jeff Caldwell this past January. Sycamore Baptist Church is holding its annual Vacation Bible School July 13th through July 17th at Sycamore Baptist Church, 142 Sycamore St., Jackson, MI 49202. “To Eternity and Beyond” is their theme this year, and the church is going all out in decorations and costumes. You may have seen some of the VBS characters at the fireworks show this past weekend, as members of Sycamore spent some time in costume, taking pictures with people in the crowd and handing out flyers with information about VBS. Vacation Bible School starts each day at 9:00 a.m. with a time of songs, skits and games. All classes are divided into one of two teams, either the Red Rocketeers or the Blue Star Commanders. The teams compete against each other for points by participating in the games and songs, chanting cheers, and memorizing Bible verses. After the Opening Assembly (re: Fun Time), the classes (divided by age) enjoy snack time and then head to their individual classrooms for age-appropriate lessons and a time of games or crafts and fun.
