Extreme Dodge Jackson County Scoreboard January 23, 2023

Boys basketball Addison 52, Vandercook Lake 19: The Jayhawks fell to 1-11 on the season with the home Cascades Conference loss.  Girls basketball Lumen Christi 38, Homer 32: The Titans are on a modest two-game winning streak with the home non-conference victory. Lumen Christi has three players in double digits as Camy Crandall scored 13 points and Allison O'Dowd and Khiya Hunt added 10 points apiece.  Springport 58, Pennfield 32: Springport High School junior Maddux Overweg broke the school record for 3-point baskets in a game with seven. Overweg finished with 30 points, five assists, and five steals for the Spartans. Brenna Crittenden scored seven points and recorded five steals and Hope Overweg finished with 14 rebounds for SHS. Springport is now 11-2 following the home non-conference win.  Boys bowling Hudson 26, Columbia Central 4: Keegan Lewis finished with a 392 series for Columbia Central.  Bedford 27, Jackson 3 Northwest 24, Coldwater 6: Kolbe Hamlin finished with a 464 series to lead the Mounties. Overweg Implements Planning On, off the Court for Springport

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (January 22, 2023 8:00 AM) The same attention to detail that Springport High School basketball player Maddux Overweg uses on the court carries over in real life. Consider the achievement by the SHS junior.  She is a 4.0 student at the high school. Overweg competes in five sports – basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and field, and soccer. She is helping lead Springport to the top in girls’ basketball with a 10-1 record heading into action this weekend. And she is a four-time grand champion at various fairs in the area. Yes, she is that busy, especially in the summer months with travel basketball, chores in the morning on the farm, and working with her animals.  “Farming is a big part of who I am,” Overweg said. “My mom says raising pigs for who is like bodybuilding for pigs. “To raise a grand champion you have to have the right mixture of food (up to 30 additives), exercise to tone the pig, take care of their skin and hair, and moisturize them with lotion.” Overweg has won three grand championships for pigs at the Jackson County Fair and one at the Eaton County Fair.  “There…

Boys basketball Lenawee Christian 65, Hanover-Horton 52: Logan Blackledge scored 23 points and Luke Soper added 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Comets.  Jackson Prep 66, Factoryville 20  Lumen Christi 69, Cabrini 37 Napoleon 51, Leslie 37: The Pirates remain undefeated with the win at Leslie High School. Boys basketball Coldwater 50, Lumen Christi 45: The Titans are now 7-4 on the season following the home loss to Coldwater.  Northwest 63, Pennfield 41:Jalen Jordan scored18 points, Colton Gowdy added 16 points, and Duncan Moffitt scored 15 points for Northwest in the Interstate-8 conference win.  Harper Creek 44, Western 32: The Panthers are 1-9 following the loss to Harper Creek in Interstate-8 Conference play.   Girls basketball Columbia Central 50, Hudson 35: Another win and another record for Zoie Bamm on Friday night. Bamm scored 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds – breaking the rebounding career record of Katie Johnson. Bamm now has 792 career boards for CCHS. Jaylen Lambka scored 11 points and Hailey Walker added seven points for the Golden Eagles.  Concord 53, Union City 34: Concord High School won its first game of the season with a home Big Eight Conference win. Cece Barrett nearly had a triple-double with 12 points, 11 steals, and nine assists. Boys basketball Columbia Central 48, Hudson 40:  Three players scored in double figures for CCHS with Jordan Pewsey scoring 14 points and pulling down eight rebounds, Derek Sanders finished with 14 points and dished two assists, and Brendan Neitzke added 11 points. Michigan Center 61, Hanover-Horton 51: Aiden Putnam scored 27 points and dished four assists and Travis Collins added 17 points for Michigan Center. Luke Soper and Logan Blackledge each scored 19 points for the Comets.  Concord 45, Jonesville 32: Mekhi Wingfield scored 22 points for Concord as the Yellow Jackets take sole possession of first place in the Big Eight Conference with a 5-0 record.  Napoleon 58, East Jackson 41: DeVonta Habern scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Napoleon to the win.
