Aldridge ready to put work and excitement back into Lumen boys hoops
(File Photo by Ryan Kerwin, JTV Sports) By Mike Moore, Staff Writer Jackson — A program with this much history, in a school with an abundance of athletic talent, can’t spend another winter with win totals in the single digits. So, if the Lumen Christi boys basketball team is going to improve, Tyler Aldridge will be the man to do so. That’s the hope the Titans’ athletic department had in mind last week when Aldridge became the newest head coach of the boys hoops program. “I was elated,” Aldridge said when he received the call offering him the position. Now, he said, it’s time to get to work. “It’s been a busy June already,” he laughed. “Getting the team organized and getting guys to workouts and things like that. That’s what we’re doing now.” And that will translate to better results in the 2017-18 campaign — Aldridge hopes. Since winning 19 times two years ago, the Titans have struggled in the record book, winning a total of four games in that span. “Effort,” Aldridge said when asked what’s plagued the team. “I really think that’s been the issue. Michigan Center Baseball Team Ready for Regional Action Against Leslie
By Mike Moore Staff Writer Michigan Center — This particular spot in the postseason may be somewhat unfamiliar for the guys on the Michigan Center baseball team, but this opponent will be all-too familiar. At 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the Cardinals will resume play in the 2017 postseason with a regional semifinal against Leslie High at Napoleon. “They are one of the best hitting teams we’ve seen all year,” skipper Matt Desmarais said. “We know they are going to put the ball in play and swing it well. Our pitchers have to pound the zone, and our defense has to be ready at all times.” Desmarais spoke as if he had seen Leslie a time or two this year. In fact, Saturday will be the fourth meeting this spring. The Cardinals won the first meeting 11-10 before dropping the next two by 8-5 and 9-8 scores. “Very familiar with one another,” he said with a laugh. Still, despite the scores from earlier this year, he’s not anticipating much of anything this time around. “It’s hard to tell how the game may go,” Desmarais said. “We haven’t seen their best pitchers, and they haven’t seen ours.” Leslie will see one Saturday…

Mike Brockie Repeats as Jackson Masters Champion
By Gary Kalahar, JTV Sports Mike Brockie won the Jackson Masters golf tournament Sunday, made some history, and broke up a college party while he was at it. Brockie extended his record-breaking run of local tournament success by repeating as Jackson Masters champion with a blazing finish to give him a two-round total of 4-under-par 140 at the Country Club of Jackson. Four of the next five finishers behind the 46-year-old Brockie are in college or just graduated, including the final threesome all carrying college bags. Playing one group in front of the college crowd, Brockie birdied four of the last six holes for a 69 that was the day’s best round by four strokes. That gave him a three-stroke edge over Josh Dirlam, with Henry Hitt third another stroke back. Dirlam and Hitt had shared the first-round lead by a stroke over Brockie, Connor Talbert and Steve Maddalena. With his seventh Jackson Masters victory in the last 10 years, Brockie became the first player to win any of Jackson’s major tournaments seven times. “If there was one (tournament) where I’d like to do that, it’s this one, here at this place,” Brockie said. “You can never get tired of playing…
