Spring Arbor Baseball Gives Riggleman 1,000th Victory in Walk-off Fashion
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University head baseball coach Sam Riggleman notched his 1,000th career victory in dramatic fashion on Tuesday with a 3-2 walk-off win over Marian University at Hank Burbridge Field. With the score tied and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, junior Mitchel Patterson ripped the first offering he saw into the right field corner allowing freshman Francisco Ondina to race home all the way from first base to clinch the victory. “What an incredible accomplishment for Coach Riggleman,” said SAU Director of Athletics Ryan Cottingham. “He has proven to be a model of consistency over a long period of time. The 1,000 wins are certainly very impressive and put him in select company amongst some of the all-time greats at any level. Lumen Christi standout Caleb Chesney signs with Spring Arbor Men’s Soccer
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University men’s soccer head coach Nathan Miller is proud to announce the signing on local standout Caleb Chesney. “Caleb is a top local talent that we are thrilled to add to our program,” said Miller. “We have seen him progress and develop over the past couple years, and we know he will work extremely hard and contribute to our team.” Chesney helped lead Jackson Lumen Christi to a 17-4-1 record and a district title last season. He was a three-time All-Conference, All-District and All-Region midfielder for the Titans and garnered a Second Team All-State selection following his senior season. “The versatility of our wingers is really important to our system, and he has the ability to impact the game with a change of pace,” Miller added. “Caleb is a tough kid and he will really add to our competitive culture that we have in training every day.” “I have known about SAU for a very long time and the coaches and players were all so great to me on my first overnight visit,” said Chesney on why he chose Spring Arbor. “It felt like home when I was there! Lumen Christi’s Willis and Girodat Set to Play D1 Football
Jackson, Michigan - It was about family and hard work. Those were the common themes at Lumen Christi High School Wednesday morning when a pair of Titan football players – RB Khari Willis and TE/DT Sam Girodat – signed Letters of Intent to play Division 1 college football. Both student-athletes cited foundations built upon hard work, support from family, their faith and honoring their word to college recruiters as highlights of the special day. “There are just so many people to thank for helping me get to this day,” Girodat said. “I definitely did not get here by myself and can’t wait to get started at the next level. I know it’s going to take a lot of hard work, but I’m ready. This is definitely a dream come true.” Willis echoed those sentiments. “I’m just blessed to be in this position,” the future Spartan said. “Just having this opportunity is the culmination of a lot of hard work and support from my family, my coaches and my teammates. Spring Arbor to Participate in Blood Drive Challenge
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University will team up with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive on Tuesday, Feb. 10 as part of the Spring Arbor vs. Indiana Wesleyan University Blood Drive Challenge. The event will take place at the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. This is the first time the two institutions will go head-to-head in a competition to collect the most units of blood. The winning school will receive a trophy and bragging rights for the year. Spring Arbor student-athletes LeAnn Porter and Quincy Banini will also be working with representatives from the American Red Cross to promote the event and show the importance of donating blood. Come out and participate to help make this the largest blood drive ever at Spring Arbor! Appointments are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome – just remember to bring a picture ID with date of birth.
