Western High School junior Reece Hitt (33) finished with 15 points in a Division 2 regional semifinal win over Battle Creek Pennfield on Monday at Williamston High School. Photo by Jeff Steers, JTV Sports. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports The Western High School girls’ varsity basketball team has been wearing t-shirts with one simple saying on the back … “unfinished business.” That starts on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Panthers defeated Battle Creek Pennfield 50-29 in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 regional semifinal on Monday. They will face Lansing Catholic High School in the regional final tomorrow at Williamston High School beginning at 7 p.m. Western was scheduled to be in the regional final a year ago before COVID-19 restrictions cancelled the remainder of the season. The news came down about four hours before game time. “Our girls have been wearing a t-shirt that says unfinished business … that unfinished business starts Wednesday,” WHS Coach Gina Fortress said. “We have been shooting for Wednesday night for a long time.” Fortress said the team held out hope all last spring hoping to be able to play Marshall – an Interstate-8 Conference opponent they beat twice during the regular…

Members of the Hanover-Horton High School wrestling team celebrate after winning a district and conference title on Wednesday at Addison High School. Photo by Jeff Steers, JTV Sports. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports The phrases Hanover-Horton High School, wrestling, and championships have never been associated with one another. Until recently. The Comets won a district and Cascades Conference title with a win over Addison on Wednesday. Hanover-Horton defeated the Panthers 41-36 to claim its second Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 district title in three years. The district final match also served as a makeup for a Cascades Conference dual meet canceled earlier in the year due to COVID-19 concerns. With the win, Hanover-Horton tied Napoleon and Manchester high schools for the conference crown with a 6-1 record. The Comets defeated Manchester earlier in the season, Napoleon beat Hanover-Horton, and the Flying Dutchmen defeated the Pirates. Since there was no conference tournament – due to restrictions on individual tournaments – the trio of teams earned conference titles. “It is a big deal to win a conference title,” Hanover-Horton Coach Doug Cure said. “Most of the wrestlers have been in our youth program for the past seven or eight…

Photo by Jeff Steers, JTV Sports. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (November 7, 2020 7:11 PM) Ten high school cross country runners finished in the top 30 in their respective races at the Michigan High School Athletic Association cross country finals at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday. The top 30 in each division earn all-state honors. COVID-19 restrictions split the divisions into two races – one with teams who finished first or second in their respective regional races and another for the third-place teams at regionals and individual qualifiers. The MHSAA was trying to limit the number of athletes in each race. Fans were also restricted to the grandstands, items like tents (where people would congregate) were banned, and teams had a checkout and check-in times. Here is a listing off all of the Jackson Country runners who participated in the two-day event. D-1 Tyler Lowery of Jackson High School shook off a COVID-19 scare on Monday and placed 135th in the Division 1 race on Friday. He finished the 5K course in…
