JTV Sports Jackson County Scoreboard April 14, 2024

Softball Lake Michigan 8, Jackson College 0: The Jets were limited to three hits in the contest. Ashley Sturgill, Karson Fairbanks, and Addison Bobbio recorded the hits for JC.  Jackson College 2, Lake Michigan 1: Karson Fairbanks finished with two of the Jets’ three hits – including a home run – and knocked in one run in the victory. Rayannah Burke earned the win giving up only five hits and striking out five. The Jets host Ancilla Monday for a make up doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. The Jets are 12-12 overall, 8-8 in MCCAA play this season.  Baseball Jackson College 2, St. Clair County 1: The Jets scored two runs in the third inning to pull ahead. Henry Major and Jared Kramp recorded double to knock in runs. Luke Micunek earned the pitching win for the Jets striking out seven batters in 4.2 innings. Sammy Bronkema pitched two innings of scoreless baseball in relief for JC.  Jackson College 11, St. Clair County 3: Harry Major, Jared Kramp, Gabe Jones, and Logan Christophel each had two hits for JC in the 10 hit attack. New Jackson Lacrosse Program Popular with Hockey Players

Jackson Lacrosse goalie Hikaru Matzen has produced nearly 40 saves in net in the last two games. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (April 14, 2024 7:30 AM ET) A year ago, the only sticks and balls Western High School student-athlete Hikaru Matzen cared about were golf clubs and Titleists. But the Western High School senior is one of nearly three dozen players participating in a cooperative program playing lacrosse for Jackson. The team consists of players from Jackson, Western, Northwest, Lumen Christi, and Michigan Center. Matzen joined the team a couple of months ago and is the starting goalie for Jackson. He learned the position using an interesting method. “I spent a lot of time sitting in my room and watching YouTube,” Matzen said. “The Princeton (University) goalie is really good with a lower stance.” Matzen played hockey for eight years and golf for the last three years. He made the switch to lacrosse during his senior season. He enjoys the physical aspect of the sport and compares it to his experience playing hockey. Baseball Concord 4, Britton-Deerfield 3: The Yellowjackets scored three times in the first inning and held on for the home win. Dustin Hamilton finished with two hits and two RBIs for CHS.  Concord 14, Athens 0: Concord finished 2-0 on the day with an easy win over Athens. Carter Arbuckle hit a home run and knocked in two runs and Dustin Hamilton finished with two hits and three RBIs for Concord. Lane Blossom finished with three hits, and Levi Raymond, Jordan Mendellin, and Lucas Tyler each finished with two hits for CHS.  Hanover-Horton 10, Madison 4: The Comets exploded for eight runs in the third inning to break open a close game. Jack Wooster finished with two hits and an RBI and Luke Soper tallied one hit and two RBIs for Hanover-Horton.  Charlotte 6, Hanover-Horton 3: Luke Soper finished with two hits and Cameron Sherwood had two RBIs for the Comets.  Columbia Central 11, Napoleon 1: The Golden Eagles improved to 6-0 by winning the Napoleon Invitational Saturday. JTV Sports Jackson County Scoreboard: April 12th, 2024

Boys Track and Field Napoleon Invitational: Napoleon High School won the title with 135 points, Hanover-Horton was fifth (73.5), Lumen Christi placed sixth (37), Columbia Central was seventh (33), East Jackson was 10th (24), Northwest tied for 11th (23), and Michigan Center finished 14th (9). Jackson County winners were Holden Van Poppel of Napoleon in the 200-meter dash (22.45) and 110-meter hurdles (15.02), Hudson Cooper of Northwest won the 800-meter dash (53.29), Landen Boulis of Hanover-Horton won the 3,200-meter run (10:01), Hanover-Horton won the 400-meter relay (46.14), Napoleon took first in the 800-meter relay (1:36.29) and the 1,600-meter relay (3:39), and DeVonta Habern won the long jump with a new school record for Napoleon at 22-0.
