Isaiah Ingles to play at SAU
Isaiah Ingles, a 5'8 combo guard from Jackson County Western High School has signed to play at Spring Arbor University beginning in the fall of 2014. Ingles has amassed 1,240 career points through the first 11 games of his senior campaign including 206 three pointers made. Isaiah joins 6'5 forward Zach Baker (Northpointe Christian) and 6'2 sharpshooter Drew Zuidema (Northpointe Christian) as the newest members of the Cougar Basketball Family. Currently Isaiah is averaging 20.8 points per game to go along with 3.7 assists and 2.4 steals. He is shooting 43 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range. Ingles, a four year varsity starter has averaged 17.2 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.4 steals per game over the course of his prep career. He was selected First Team All-Conference as a sophomore and junior and will make it a three-peat upon the completion of his final season. As a junior Isaiah was selected Bankhoops All-State Fourth Team and BCAM Honorable Mention. Bankhoops also voted him onto their Sophomore All-State Team. "Isaiah has a really good feel for the game. Special Season for East Jackson Girls Basketball
By Larry Jacobson, JTV Sports East Jackson High School girls basketball coach Meeka Sova knows she has a special group of kids on this years’ team. But there’s nothing like confirmation. “This is a great group of kids,” Sova said. “But it’s so refreshing to hear it from others. I’m constantly talking to our teachers who say the girls are a pleasure to have in class, they’re attentive and they’re good students. I received an e-mail the other day from someone who’d attended one of our games and wanted to compliment us our sportsmanship – and this is someone from completely outside the program. I think the girls on this team genuinely like each other, they work hard and they have tremendous character.” Oh, and they’re pretty good, too… Heading into this week’s action the Trojans (11-4 overall and 9-2 in the Cascades Conference) are just a game behind Manchester for first place. “It’s a continuation from how we finished last year,” Sova said. “And there’s the excitement of last years’ boys team, as well. Cougars fall at home
SPRING ARBOR, MI – For the first time in his very impressive career, Rob Hogans scored more than 30 points in back to back games. On February 1, Hogans poured in 42 points against Bethel College and tonight against Grace, Hogans led all scorers with 32 points. Hogans heroic effort wasn't enough, however as the Cougars lost to the Lancers 68-64. Despite trailing the Lancers by as many as eight points in the first half, Spring Arbor held a narrow, one point lead after the first 20 minutes of play. The score at intermission was Spring Abror32, Grace 31. Grace came out of the half with a little more momentum and took a 39-34 lead after three minutes of play. Neither team scored a point for a little under four minutes of action and with 12:59 left on the clock the score was still 39-34 until Thomas Starks connected from outside the arc to break the drought. Over the next several minutes, the Cougars and Lancers traded blows and provided the fans that braved the cold and snowy roads a game worth the price of admission.
