Despite a worldwide pandemic and the postponement of spring sports, Bargesser was hoping the training would pay off someday. That day was Friday. The GLHS senior won the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, and ran the anchor leg of the 400-meter relay for the Warriors. Grass Lake won the regional team title with 132 points. Hanover-Horton finished third (56.2), Michigan Center placed seventh (40), Napoleon was eighth (39.2), Lumen Christi finished 12th (17), and Columbia Central was 13th (9). The Warriors were juiced up all day supporting all runners – whether they placed or not. “I think it is really cool that everyone supports all the runners,” Bargesser said. “It is a great team atmosphere and lets you know we have a great team behind you.” The…

Photo by Jeff Steers, JTV Sports By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (May 22, 2021 11:30 AM) What happens when a distance runner turned sprinter meets a sprinter turned middle distance runner? It is an interesting race. That happened on Friday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 track regional at Hillsdale High School. In the end, the sprinter took home the wins but the distance runner proved she is a force to be reckoned with. Grass Lake High School finished third (67) to Quincy (99.5) and Jonesville (70) at Hillsdale High School in the Division 3 regional. Hanover-Horton finished eighth (47), Lumen Christi was ninth (44), Napoleon placed 10th (31), Columbia Central finished 13th (16), and Michigan Center was 14th (15). Defending state champion in the 100 and 200-meter dash Lexus Bargesser won regional titles in both events running a 12.37 in the 100 final and 25.32 in the 200. But it was the 400-meter race – a new venture for Bargesser – that was the interesting contest. Bargesser faced two-time…

He spent 57 years teaching the game of baseball to high-school aged students. Wright died on Jan. 21, 2021, at the age of 92. The tournament named after him has been changed to the Bob Wright Memorial Baseball Invitational. Administrators at Jackson High School gave family members a plaque and a poster from Saturday’s event prior to the championship game. Lumen Christi defeated Western 16-1 to win the 2021 tournament. Photo by Jeff Steers, JTV Sports. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (May 13, 2021 3:12 PM) While most students entering college spent time filling out paperwork, maybe writing an essay, or sending in applications, Western High School student-athlete Michael McAninch went through a little more regimented procedure. McAninch will be attending the Air Force Academy next year to play football and commit 12 years to the service. He was one of nearly two dozen student-athletes who will be pursuing sports at the collegiate level next year. Western High School held a senior signing celebration on Thursday in the school’s main gymnasium. McAninch said he performed an interview with an Air Force lieutenant, received a Congressional nomination from Congressman Tim Walberg, and had to pass a physical and medical exam. “The interview with Congressman Walberg had a lot of questions about leadership skills and moral values,” McAninch said. McAninch – who maintains a 3.8 grade point average on a 4.0 scale – expects to play offensive guard on the Air…
