CeCe Winans Brings Music of Praise to Potter Center
Jackson College’s Potter Center will welcome one of the most celebrated singers in contemporary and Gospel music, CeCe Winans, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019. Award-winning Gospel singer CeCe Winans was born in Detroit, the eighth of 10 children. She began her career with her brother as the duo BeBe & CeCe. Their first album, released in 1987, was the self-titled “BeBe and CeCe Winans,” and initiated a series of five albums. Topping Christian radio charts were “For Always,” “Don’t Cry for Me,” “Count It All Joy,” “I’ll Take You There,” and “Addictive Love.” As a solo artist, she released “Alone In His Presence” which garnered a Grammy Award, and released a duet with Whitney Houston, “Count on Me.” Albums “Everlasting Love,” “His Gift,” and “Alabaster Box” cemented her status as a top-tier Gospel artist. By the end of the 1990s, she had won a handful of gold and platinum record certifications, as well as eight Dove Awards to go with her Grammy. CeCe entered the following decade with a self-titled album (2001) that concentrated on the adult contemporary and R&B markets. Andy’s Place Awarded $1.1 Million in MHSDA Tax Credits
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MHSDA) has announced the awarding of tax credits for Andy’s Place in Jackson and seventeen other projects in Michigan. These projects will provide affordable housing options for a variety of populations, including individuals recovering from addiction, low- to moderate-income Michiganders and homeless youth. In the latest round of federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) awards, MSHDA will allocate $15,017,379 to fund major renovation and construction projects to build or rehabilitate 977 apartment units, Executive Director Earl Poleski announced today. “We have seen some really thoughtful, strategic plans for high-quality affordable housing in this funding round,” Poleski said. “There is an overall commitment to serve the whole person through housing—whether it’s homes closer to where they work, homes for underserved populations or homes with significant supportive services like Andy’s Place—we’re creating housing for everyday people.” Andy’s Place in Jackson is the result of a dream and hard work by Mike Hirst, founder of Andy’s Angels, a recovery and support group named for Mike’s son, Andy Hirst.
