Jackson College has announced the names of students who have been named to the Dean's List for Spring 2016.  Students are recognized each semester for high academic achievement by being named to the Dean’s List. A new four-story, mixed use complex including residential and commercial space is set to break ground in downtown Jackson. A ceremony for the “Lofts on Louis” development is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the building site on Louis Glick Highway, just north of the Hotel Hayes. The public is invited to attend the event, and light refreshments will be served. The Lofts on Louis project was awarded a loan from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation on Tuesday, Oct. 25 - the final touchstone before the project could begin. “We’re so pleased to finally put shovels in the ground,” said John Burtka, project partner. “We feel this project could be the first step toward more development in Jackson.” The $5.4 million, 47,000-square-foot project is expected to take roughly one year to complete. The development includes 30 apartment units and a commercial space on the first floor. “We’re very excited to be a part of this project and help revitalize Jackson,” Mayor Bill Jors said. “This is something we’ve worked on for years, and to see shovels in the ground and construction equipment coming to the site makes for great news.” Jackson City Manager Patrick Burtch said it’s projects…

The City of Jackson has released an update on the various street construction projects.  They include several streets, the Martin Luther King Equality Trail extension and parking lot improvements. Francis Street between Washington and Glick Last weekend (10/22), new pavement markings were applied and the street was opened to traffic. The only items remaining are the establishment of grass and the planting of trees in the planter areas. Trees will be planted shortly and will not require a street closure. Grass will be planted in the spring.
