Nite Lites 3rd Annual Run-Walk Scheduled for Thanksgiving Eve

Photo by Ryan Kerwin, JTV The 3rd Annual Nite Lites Christmas 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held on Thanksgiving Eve, November 23rd  to launch the season with Jackson’s newest holiday tradition at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.    Santa and Mrs. Claus will travel from the North Pole to officially launch the 5K Fun Run at 6pm and the 5K Fun Walk at 6:30pm.  Miss Jackson Crossroads 2016, Courtney Clark and 2016 Miss Jackson Crossroads Outstanding Teen, Katie Powell will join the jolly couple at the starting line.    Holiday music will greet participants inside the festively decorated American 1 Event Center where race packet pick-up for on-line registrants will begin at 2pm and continue until the event start.  On-site registration will also be available for $30 per person.  Children age 5 and under are free!   “We are thrilled to bring this unique holiday experience of walking through the Nite Lites” said John Spink, Nite Lites Chairman.  “Our hope from the very onset of this event was to create a tradition on Thanksgiving Eve as families and friends gathered for the long weekend and support educational scholarships for Jackson County women.”   Thousands of twinkling lights and lit Holiday displays…

Jackson College Announces Spring 2016 Dean’s List

Jackson College has announced the names of students who have been named to the Dean's List for Spring 2016.  Students are recognized each semester for high academic achievement by being named to the Dean’s List. “Lofts on Louis” Set to Break Ground on Friday

A new four-story, mixed use complex including residential and commercial space is set to break ground in downtown Jackson. A ceremony for the “Lofts on Louis” development is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the building site on Louis Glick Highway, just north of the Hotel Hayes. The public is invited to attend the event, and light refreshments will be served. The Lofts on Louis project was awarded a loan from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation on Tuesday, Oct. 25 - the final touchstone before the project could begin. “We’re so pleased to finally put shovels in the ground,” said John Burtka, project partner. “We feel this project could be the first step toward more development in Jackson.” The $5.4 million, 47,000-square-foot project is expected to take roughly one year to complete. The development includes 30 apartment units and a commercial space on the first floor. “We’re very excited to be a part of this project and help revitalize Jackson,” Mayor Bill Jors said. “This is something we’ve worked on for years, and to see shovels in the ground and construction equipment coming to the site makes for great news.” Jackson City Manager Patrick Burtch said it’s projects…

Weekly City Construction Update

The City of Jackson has released an update on the various street construction projects.  They include several streets, the Martin Luther King Equality Trail extension and parking lot improvements. Francis Street between Washington and Glick Last weekend (10/22), new pavement markings were applied and the street was opened to traffic. The only items remaining are the establishment of grass and the planting of trees in the planter areas. Trees will be planted shortly and will not require a street closure. Grass will be planted in the spring.
