Network TV Pilot Filming in Jackson

"Just Brett & Lilly" is the title of a new network television show being filmed in Jackson this month.  The show chronicles the story of a single father raising his daughter and stars Brett Hayworth and Lilly Hayworth as the real life father-daughter team.  Residents of Jackson, the Hayworths appeared on today's Bart Hawley Show to discuss the progress of the pilot's production.  Several days of filming have already occurred at various locations in Jackson, with more shoots planned later this month.  In addition to Brett and Lilly, actor and singer Robert Davi has filmed scenes in Jackson for the pilot.  Several networks are interested in the series and Brett hopes to have a deal soon.  Other guests:  Paula Freehling, Jackson Area Career Center Counselor of the Year with Western High School counselor Becky Callender;  Janet Meyer, Jackson KidzArt and Club Scientific;  Jackson Speedway owner John Lefere with Mark Joseph, owner, Sparky's Fireworks Outlet, Entertainment news with Dave DeBaker;  Ric Walton, Walton Insurance Group.

Community Events Featured on “Summer Spectacular”

Many of the major community events of the summer will be featured on the new summer series "Tripp's Auto Shop & Collision Center presents Summer Spectacular" weekends on JTV.  Among the events planned for the series are The Jackson County Rose Parade, American 1 Teen Idol, Jackson Symphony Orchestra Summer Pops, Hot Air Jubilee and the Civil War Muster.  Phil Tripp, president of Tripp's Auto Shop and Collision Center said he is excited to be bringing these great family summer events to the community.  Over the years, Tripp's Auto Shop and Collision Center has generously sponsored many major events in the communities they serve.   Watch for JTV all summer at these events, then tune in to JTV on the weekends for complete coverage.  This weekend, The Jackson County Rose Parade will air at 1, 3, 7 and 9pm both Saturday and Sunday on the "Tripp's Auto Shop and Collision Center presents Summer Spectacular".

Mayoral Candidate John Wilson on Neighborhoods

John Wilson, candidate for Jackson mayor appeared on today's Bart Hawley Show to talk about his campaign and priorities.  Wilson's number one campaign issue is the city's neighborhoods and the condition of streets in neighborhoods.  If elected, Wilson would bring back leaf pickup to be performed by city crews.  Other guests:  Lumen Christi baseball players Josh Iocca and Joey Mehelich with coaches Phil Clifford and Jamie Sweeney;  Financial Planner Doug Barber, Rehmann;  Scott Vitale, Childrenz Challenge;  Kim Conant, Salvation Army;  Jackson College Assistant Professor Tom McMillen-Oakley;  Pet of the Week with Sue Lovell, Cascades Humane Society.

Selby Track Classic to air this weekend on JTV

JTV will air the James R. Selby Track and Field Classic this Saturday and Sunday at 1pm, 3pm, 7pm and 9pm.  Jackson High's Corey Pryor was named Male Outstanding Performer of the meet.  He finished 1st in the 110 High Hurdles, 300 Hurdles and was a member of the winning 400 Relay.  On the girls side, Kaniya Weatherspoon of Napoleon was named Female Outstanding Performer.  She won the Long Jump, 400 and 200.  To watch online at the above times click here  Coverage of the Selby Track and Field Classic on JTV is brought to you by Tripp's Auto Shop and Collision Center.

Superintendent Receives Stellar Rating

Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Jeff Beal has earned a stellar rating at the completion of his first year on the job by the JPS Board of Education.  The board cited his leadership, board relations and community relations as strong points.  Beal also was commended for reducing expenditures without layoffs or cuts in student programming and for providing options for students and families, such as the reconfiguration of JPS elementary schools next year and partnerships with community agencies.  The superintendent was joined on today's Bart Hawley Show by Jeremy Patterson, Principal of Frost Upper Elementary and Mary Kuhn, Principal of Cascades Early Elementary.  Both schools will be re-aligned next school year and will be working together more closely.

Baker College Graduates To Be Honored June 12

JACKSON, Mich. – Baker College of Jackson will recognize 361 graduates at the 2015 commencement ceremony at 7 p.m., Friday, June 12, at Jackson High School Auditorium, 544 Wildwood Ave., Jackson. The event will include graduates who attended the main campus, the satellite campus in Coldwater and Baker College Center for Graduate Studies. “While graduation signals the end of a course of study, the word commencement means beginning, and that is what the class of 2015 is doing," said Steve Simpson, Ed.D., Baker College of Jackson chief academic office. "The knowledge and skills that these graduates acquired at Baker College will help set them on meaningful and rewarding career paths as they begin the next chapter of their lives.” Benjamin Lasky, of Jackson, will be the graduate speaker for the ceremony. He is receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management. Several awards for outstanding graduates will be presented at the ceremony: Business Administration Award—Isaac Daugherty, Jackson, bachelor’s in accounting. Human Services Award—Rita Honeysett, Eaton Rapids, bachelor’s in human services. Health Sciences Award—Amanda Marie Hubbard, Battle Creek, bachelor’s in radiation therapy. Albion Recieves “The Big Read” NEA Grant

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) honors Albion, MI with the receipt of a Big Read grant for 2015. This is a tremendous accomplishment as Albion is now one of only 75 communities in the nation to receive this award. 'The Big Read' NEA Grant will support a series of community events and activities that celebrate and advance reading throughout October 2015. The Bid Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. Jess Roberts, an Albion College English professor and Big Read committee chair, will be leading this event throughout the summer and into Fall with the assistance of the Big Read Planning Committee and 2015 Albion College graduate, Madeline Drury. Their goals are to empower youth and encourage community dialogue by having local middle school and high school students lead book discussions. The book chosen for this year's Big Read is A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. JTV and The Sam Bernstein Law Firm Announce “Hometown Heroes” Program

JTV and The Sam Bernstein Law Firm announce the launch of “Hometown Heroes”, a program designed to honor First Responders in the JTV viewing area who have demonstrated bravery, compassion, courage, dedication and selflessness in the line of duty. JTV will be asking viewers to nominate Hometown Heroes via the station website (www.jtv.tv) during the month of June. A panel of judges will choose five finalists whose stories will be told on the Sam Bernstein Law Firm Facebook page. Viewers and Facebook visitors will then be asked to vote for their favorite Hometown Hero from among the finalists. The top vote-getter will be honored with an appearance on “The Bart Hawley Show” on JTV, a Hometown Heroes award plaque and a contribution of $250 to their favorite charity. “Big Mitten Fair” Coming to MIS Labor Day Weekend

Celebrate Americana at the Big Mitten Fair at Michigan International Speedway over Labor Day weekend 2015. Chris Knight returns to The WAX stage on Sunday, June 7

Jackson, MI - Singer-songwriter Chris Knight was greeted by a full-house audience last December and is hoping to draw even more fans in his second appearance with Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s increasingly popular Affinity Series on Sunday, June 7 at 7 p.m. Appreciative of the audience response and hospitality on his first visit, it was Chris Knight himself that wanted to make a return visit to downtown Jackson and Affinity Series Director Steve Trosin was more than happy to make it happen. “We are beyond excited to get Chris back on our stage at The Wax.
