Art 634 Owners Purchase Zoerman-Clark, Acme Properties

The owners of Art 634 have purchased the long-vacant adjacent properties, the Zoerman-Clark building and the Acme Industries site near the corner of Ganson and Mechanic Streets in Jackson. The former Acme Industries and Zoerman-Clark Manufacturing property is a roughly three-acre piece of land owned for several years by The Enterprise Group Property Development LLC, an entity of The Enterprise Group of Jackson. The Acme Buildings were demolished in 2010, and the site holds potential for non-residential development. Its use dates back to the mid-1800s, with a history of creating farm implements, wagons, furniture, and heating and cooling products. The historic former Zoerman-Clark buiIding at 626 N. Mechanic Street, is the only building remaining on the site.  The last tenant in the building, The Cascades Humane Society, vacated the building upon completion of their new facility on Carmen Drive in 2004. The site's proximity to Art 634 and Armory Arts Village has long held placemaking potential as the entry to the arts district, and has been so-designated through historic Planned Unit Development District (PUDD) zoning classification and master-planning efforts. With need for parking and a vision of future arts-related concepts, La Renaissance II, LLC, the owners of Art 634, recently acquired the…

Bigger Music Festivals in Michigan International Speedway’s Future

Photo courtesy Live Nation The 2015 Faster Horses Festival was a great success according to Michigan International Speedway, host of this year’s country music festival. The festival sold out again this year, entertaining 40,000 country music fans and campers during the three-day outdoor celebration. The track, known mostly for the two Nascar race weekends in June and August, has been adding other events as they have improved the property over the past few years. In addition to Faster Horses, the track hosts the Michigan Wine and Beer Fest each May, “Keloorah” Music Festival during the race weekends, The Tough Mudder competition and the state Cross Country Championships in the fall. New this year is the Big Mitten state fair over Labor Day weekend. Track President Roger Curtis told Crain’s Detroit Business that the success of these events is prompting the consideration of even bigger music festivals, along the lines of Lollapalooza, Coachella or Bonnaroo. Live Nation, the promoter of Faster Horses and many other concert events is reportedly also considering MIS for something bigger. The economic impact to the greater Jackson area is greater with Faster Horses than with a Nascar weekend. Curtis told Crain’s Detroit Business that concertgoers “…
