Betty’s Dog Park Ribbon Cutting 7-1-21 | Photo Gallery

(July 1, 2021 4:56 PM) Jackson residents and their four-legged furry friends are celebrating the official opening of the City’s first dog park! A ribbon-cutting event for Betty’s Dog Park held today welcomed this pooch paradise into the community.  The new park is named after Betty Dahlem Desbiens, a long-time Jackson resident who donated funds to make the park possible. Betty’s Dog Park is fully fenced, with separate areas for big and small dogs to roam free, including sidewalks, benches and picnic tables. A secure fence system will help ensure pets do not escape. The dog park makes use of space in Beech Tree Park, a public park that’s been without a use since its award-winning beech tree was removed due to a lightning strike.  Downtown Jackson has seen a housing boom in recent years, with hundreds of new apartment units added to the area. Located within a short walk from downtown, Betty’s Dog Park will be useful for downtown apartment dwellers and their pets to have ample space for play time.  Desbiens helped cut the ribbon at Thursday’s event alongside City officials. Michigan Reports 228 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 894,856

(July 1, 2021 3:10 PM) Michigan reported 228 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 894,856. Michigan is reporting 10* COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 19,758. *The deaths announced today includes 14 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 6/25/21): 865,577. This information is updated Monday through Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Saturday and Sunday data.

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 14,741 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 286 Deaths

(July 1, 2021 11:55 AM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 11:30 AM today, there are 14,741 positive cases (cumulative), and 286 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 3 new cases since yesterday’s report. Cumulative recovered, as of June 30: 14,393** As of 1:30 PM June 28, there are 3 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19.  The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics.
