JTV Sports Jackson County Scoreboard March 25, 2024

College Athletic Events Softball Spring Arbor 7, Mt. Vernon 2: SAU scored six times in the fifth inning breaking open a close game. Key hits were a two-run single by Grace Lentz and a home run by Brooke Meeker. Emmalee Hamp scattered five hits earning the win on the mound for SAU.  Mt. Vernon 4, Spring Arbor 0: Emmalee Hamp recorded the only two hits for Spring Arbor in the loss.  Jackson College 9, Kalamazoo Valley 8: Carmyn Mackenzie singled in the winning run for JC in the road win. The Jets scored five times in the second inning including a two-run double by Brooke Owen. Sydney Schuler hit a home run in the sixth inning scoring two runs. Addison Bobbio and Mackenzie each recorded three hits for JC. The Jets (5-6 overall) host Lake Michigan College Tuesday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.  Baseball Spring Arbor 17, Goshen 9: The Cougars scored 16 runs in the final five innings of the game. College Athletic Events Softball Marian 8, Spring Arbor 0: Emmalee Hamp recorded two of the three hits for SAU in the road loss.  Marian 7, Spring Arbor 4: Spring Arbor jumped out to a 3-0 lead only to fall in the second game of the doubleheader. Summer Ambler finished with three hits and three RBIs and Grace Lentz added three hits for Spring Arbor (14-9 overall, 6-4 Crossroads League).   Track and Field Spring Arbor at IWU Polar at Indiana Wesleyan: Josiah Fitch won the hammer throw for Spring Arbor with a toss of 50.52 meters and Chase Hobson of SAU finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:47.

College Athletic Events Softball Spring Arbor 10, St. Francis 0: Emma Lee finished with three hits and three RBIs and Brooke Meeker added two hits and two runs batted in for SAU (14-7).  Spring Arbor 4, St. Francis 0: Elena Jones earned the pitching win striking out three batters and allowing four hits for SAU. Emmalee Hamp hit a home run and knocked in a pair of runs for SAU.  Bowling Spring Arbor Women at NAIA National Tournament: Spring Arbor defeated Concordia 4-2 in Baker games in the second round advancing to the next one in the elimination bracket. SAU averaged 195 per Baker game in the win. They lost to St. Xavier in the next round, 4-3.  NAIA Bowling: Spring Arbor University bowlers Kayla Tafanelli and Caleb Tate were selected to the NAIA All-American third team. It is the first all-American selection for Tafanelli and the third consecutive honor for Tate, a Jackson High School graduate. Track and Field Jackson at Lincoln Invitational: Kyson Cooper of Jackson High School finished second in the 60-meter dash in 7.1 seconds at the Lincoln Athletic Building SEC indoor track meet. Cyron Stamper of JHS placed fourth in the 60-meter high hurdles in 8.96 seconds. In the girls’ event, Shanie Mohead of JHS finished fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.5 seconds. Everette Drummond of Jackson finished second in the 200-meter dash in 28.01 and third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.  College Athletic Events Baseball Goshen 8, Spring Arbor 5: The Cougars scored four runs in the eighth inning but could not get any closer. Connor Dee hit a home run and finished with four RBIs for SAU.  Spring Arbor 13, Goshen 4: The Cougars improved to 8-17 on the season with the win. SAU scored six times in the seventh inning to close out the win. SAU Women’s Basketball Earns Spot in NAIA Tournament

(March 8, 2024 10:54 AM ET) On Thursday evening, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the 64-team field for the 2024 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship, and for the first time since 1999, Spring Arbor University will be going dancing. The tournament format features 16, four-team pods to be played at campus sites – announced last week – around the nation. The first round games will be played on Friday, Mar. 15 with the second round taking place on Saturday, Mar. 16 at those campus sites. The winners of those 16 pods advance to the NAIA National Tournament Final Site in Sioux City, Iowa, where those games will be played over the span of a week at the Tyson Events Center from Mar. 21-26. Spring Arbor (23-7) earned its way into the tournament as an at-large selection. The Cougars are the No. 9 seed in the Liston Quadrant and face off against Langston University (Okla.) in the first round, which will be played at Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa. Alro Steel and Alvin Glick Foundation Announce Gift of $8 Million to Grow Healthcare Workforce in Jackson

Spring Arbor University Adds Reserve Volleyball and Esports Starting in 2024-25 Season

Photo courtesy Spring Arbor University (January 23, 2024 11:07 AM ET) Spring Arbor University has announced the addition of reserve volleyball and Esports to the college's athletic offerings starting in the 2024-25 season. "The addition of reserve volleyball makes perfect sense and will provide an increased opportunity for participation while also tapping into the fantastic leadership that Coach Martinez has displayed with our varsity team," said SAU athletic director Jason Crist. "The strong culture that she has developed with our varsity athletes will have a broader impact and will allow her to be transformational on an even larger scale within our athletic department." Reserve volleyball and Esports are being added under the Spring Arbor umbrella as the department continues to strategically grow and increase the opportunities on campus. Volleyball is the latest SAU athletic team to add a reserve program, joining baseball, basketball, bowling and soccer. Current SAU head volleyball coach Betsy Martinez and her staff will oversee the recruiting and operation of the program.
