Get your party on in Downtown Jackson at the Race Week Block Party! Come out to see the Jacktown Hustlers performing on the CP Federal Stage downtown, a car show will be taking place during the party, there will be restaurant specials, and the Sunshine Fire Entertainment will be putting on a show. A bus will bring fans from MIS to the party, and then back to the campground - but space on the bus is limited so if you are a race fan looking to join in on the fun reserve a spot on the bus or you can drive yourself downtown for the party!  The Race Week Block Party runs from 5 pm to 8 pm at Horace Blackman Park, Downtown Jackson.  Free entertainment and activities, downtown restaurants will be featuring menu specials. The Race Week Block Party is presented by Experience Jackson. Today is “Pay One Price Day” at the Jackson County Fair.  Buy a ride bracelet once inside for $25.  Bracelets are sold until 8:30pm.  Morning 4-H Judging of Open Class Dairy and Goat at 9 am. and Dairy Judging at 1 pm.  Bingo tent opens at 12 pm, rides open at 2 pm.  4-H Horse & Pony Showmanship Championship and & Hippology Awards at 8pm.  Tonight’s grandstand performers are Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw and Mark Chestnutt with “Roots and Boots Country Jam”.  Hospitality tent opens at 6 pm, show at 7 pm.  Tickets are $24 and $49.  Career Quest Learning Centers will be holding a Grand Reopening today from 11 am to 6 pm.  The Jackson Campus is located at the Commonwealth Commerce Center, 209 E. Today is “$2 Tuesday” at the Jackson County Fair, with $2 admission, $2 food specials, $2 vendor specials and $2 rides.  4-H judging in the morning:  Swine, Horse & Pony, and Poultry.  The Bingo Tent opens at 12 pm, rides open at 2 pm. 4-H Beef judging is at 6 pm.  Tonight’s Grandstand Show features Flo Ride with special guest Macy Kate.  Tickets are $39, $49 and $69.  Hospitality tent opens at 6 pm, show at 7 pm. Today is Michigan Primary Election Day.  Voters in Summit, Pulaski and Jackson have issues and races to decide.  In Summit Township, there is a road improvement bond proposal.  Pulaski Township has a special road millage proposal.  In the City of Jackson, Wards 3 and 5 have City Council primary candidates. The Jackson County Fair presents Senior Citizen Day.  Ages 65 and over receive free gate admission.  Monday is Pay-One-Price Day, with ride bracelets at $25.  Events today include swine and draft horse judging at 9am, a Senior Program at 11am on the Herman Gumper stage.  South Central Woodcarvers at 11 am and 6pm.  Elvis Tribute with Matt King at 11:30 am and 5pm.  Tonight’s Grandstand show is Stone Sour, Skillet and Alter Bridge.  Tickets are $33, $44, and $64.  Hospitality Tent opens at 6pm, Grandstand show at 7pm.  Rides begin at 2pm each day. Senior Splash at Nixon Water Park, today at 9am to 10:30am.  Warm, therapeutic recreation for senior citizens.  The perfect combination of gently toning muscles, strengthening and stretching for persons over 50.  $2 per session. The Carnegie Branch of the Jackson District Library presents free movies, Tuesdays this summer at 1:30pm.  Today’s movie is “A Dog’s Purpose”.  Free, family-friendly and free popcorn. Jackson Recreation Department offers Water Aerobics class for adults at the Middle School at Parkside pool.  Classes are at 8:45am and 7:00pm.  Cost is $5 per class.  Classes run Monday thru Thursday through the summer.

The Jackson District Library invites you to Join in the celebration of our 5th Annual Karen Veramay District Wide LEGO Contest.  This year’s theme is LEGO book report – create a LEGO masterpiece based on your favorite book. Points will be awarded based on creativity, ingenuity, and originality. Please only submit original creations and not kits.  Drop off your creation at any of JDL’s 13 branches during the week of July 31st to enter the contest.  Contact your local branch for more information about contest entry deadlines and parties.Prizes a warded for 1st and 2nd place in two age groups – 0-9 and 10-17 year olds.
