Jayden Schnitkey scored a pair of goals and J.D. Locke, Damian Orcasitas, and Drew Barney added single goals for Jackson Christian. The Royals are now 12-2-1 on the season. Jackson 5, Tecumseh 2: The Vikings earned a win on the road in Southeastern Conference action. Central Academy 3, Lumen Christi 1: Lumen Christi lost at home Monday night. Girls Golf Cascades Jamboree at Clark Lake: Columbia Central High School swept the jamborees scoring 187 at Clark Lake Golf Course Monday in a rescheduled event. Concord (216) edged East Jackson by three strokes, Napoleon was two strokes behind the Trojans, Michigan Center shot 226, Grass Lake carded 240, and Hanover-Horton finished seventh at 256. The Golden Eagles placed three golfers in the top five as Logan Bentley shot 37, Kelsey Fausz finished fourth scoring 45, and Marissa Berro tied for fifth with Drew Swihart and Mariah Kerley with 45s. Volleyball Columbia Central 3, Michigan Center 1: The Golden Eagles won 22-25, 25-19, 25-10, and 25-19 to start the Cascades Conference season. Mara Henry finished with 11 kills and four blocks, Alison Richardson tallied 16 assists and 16 digs, and Allie Choate finished with nine kills for CCHS (3-4 overall, 1-0 Cascades). Napoleon 3, East Jackson 0: The Pirates won 25-19, 25-7, and 25-7. Myla Hasegawa tallied 14 kills and Gracie Tallman added 11 kills for Napoleon. Kate Fall finished with 27 assists for the Pirates. Grass Lake 3, Vandercook Lake 0: The Warriors won 25-8. 25-7, and 25-14 on the road in Cascades Conference action. Mia Buttigieg finished with 32 assists, Hanna Alvarez scored 12 digs, and Ashleigh Simon finished with 11 kills for Grass Lake. Hanover-Horton 3, Homer 0: The Comets won 25-11, 25-12, and 25-12 improving to 6-1-1 on the season. Week One of High School Football Offers Few Surprises By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (September 1, 2024 9:00 AM ET) Week one in the high school football season offered few upsets, but an array of new stars. Here are the capsules from games held Thursday and Friday involving local teams. Lumen Christi 49, Michigan Center 21: Michigan Center hung tough with the defending state champions but the Titans took over in the second half. Lumen Christi led 28-21 and scored the final three touchdowns in the game to pull out the victory at home Thursday. Kadale Williams ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns for the Titans. Timmy Crowley also scored twice on runs and threw for 113 yards and one touchdown to Kash Kalahar. Josh DuMont also scored for the Titans and finished with 60 rushing yards. Sean Walicki and Isaac Rehberg each finished with seven tackles and Jack Fitzpatrick intercepted a pass for LCCHS. Michigan Center was led by Braylen Brown with 88 rushing yards and one touchdown. Mickle Wins Tournament of Champions Golf Event, 9-9-2024
Dave Mickle, pictured above, won the Tour of Champions golf event Sunday with a 4-under-par 68. He tied Andrew Tindall and won the event on the third playoff hole. Greg Zeller shot 70, Jamie Clark shot a 1-under-par 71, and Steve Maddalena finished with a 72. It is the last major of the season in Jackson County. Boys Basketball Concord 68, Hanover-Horton 57: Jett Smith scored 26 points, Mekhi Wingfield added 23 points, and Connor Stevens finished with 12 points for Concord (13-4). Wrestling Team District Division 1 at Holt: Jackson High School defeated Lansing Everett in the semifinal match 66-15. The Vikings lost to Grand Ledge 59-18 in the Division 1 District final at Holt High School. Antonio Williams (157) and Curtis Winters (285) recorded a pair of pins for the Vikings on the night. Division 2 at Western: Northwest High School defeated Marshall 63-15 in the semifinal round and defeated Western 42-33 in the district final. The Panthers advanced to the finals by defeating Charlotte 64-15. Northwest advances to the D-2 regional round against the winner of the Harper Creek district. After Western won the first two match of the final, Northwest reeled off eight consecutive wins to take the match. Franklin Banister (106), Kayden Beach (126), Evan Beuerle (132), Blaine Anspaugh (138), and Jeff Miller (144) earned pins for the Mounties in the final at Western High School.
