The 2017 Uncle Phil’s Barbecue Cookout, sponsored by Willis & Jurasek is today from 11:30am to 1:30pm at 2545 Spring Arbor Road.  Chicken, Kielbasa, salads, drinks, chips and cookies.  $10 per person with all proceeds going to Jackson area childrens’ charities.  750-3093 for to-go orders.

Secure your financial information by shredding paperwork at the AARP Paper Shred Event at Lily Missionary Baptist Church, 1117 WG Wade DR, Jackson. This is a free event. 2PM to 6PM.

Save Our Youth will be holding a Bike Building Class at the Armory Bike Union today (and all summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 12N to 1PM.  Sign up by contacting Thomas Burke at 517-240-6134.

Race Weekend at Grand River Brewery featuring MIS President Rick Brenner, 5PM to 10PM.  Enjoy some race-themed burger and cocktail specials as well as the debut of Grand River Brewery’s 5w-20 Coffee Oatmeal Bacon Brunch Stout.

At 5 PM, there will be an MIS pace car on site as well as a meet and greet with the new MIS President, Rick Brenner until 6 PM at the Grand River Brewery wine bar. At 6 PM, ARCA Drivers will arrive for pictures, autographs, and questions. The Pure Michigan Pace Car will be onsite!  And at 7 PM, Sunshine Fire Entertainment will be performing fire breathing and fire dances in the parking lot. 

Jackson College Heritage Center is presenting a premiere screening of “Answering the Call:  A Memorial to Jackson Junior College Student Lt. Zenneth Pond” during a special event from 6 to 8pm at Jackson College Maher Campus.  This is a celebration of ten years of community projects of local history.  3000 Blake Road, Jackson.

Ella’s Patio Party, tonight from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Ella Sharp Park.  Live music by Dan Palmer, snacks and a cash bar. 

The Purple Rose Theatre production of Harvey opens tonight at Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea.  A Pulitzer-prize winning classic by Mary Chase, Harvey runs thru August 28.  Curtain at 8PM tonight, Friday and Saturday.  Weekend matinees are also scheduled.  Call 734-433-7673 for tickets and additional showtimes.
