JSO Presents: An Inclusive Musical Experience. 10:30 AM. The Jackson Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce its upcoming Sensory-Friendly Chamber Concert, designed to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities, including neurodiverse audiences and those with communication, movement, and learning needs. Taking place on November 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Weatherwax Hall, this concert will feature the softer wind instruments from our orchestra performing as a small chamber group. Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Flute, and Oboe will share their unique sounds with the audience in a lower-lighting setting. Admission is free, but reservations are required to ensure the best experience for all attendees. Center Stage Jackson presents “Fun Home”. Center Stage Jackson is thrilled to produce this musical in the Ruth Day Theatre in Jackson College’s Potter Center November 1-3 and 8-10. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7pm and Sunday performances at 3pm. Doors open thirty minutes prior to the performance. “Fun Home” is a musical adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori from Alison Bechdel’s 2006 graphic memoir of the same name. The story chronicles Bechdel’s discovery of her own sexuality, her relationship with her closeted gay father, and her attempts to unlock the mysteries surrounding his life. It is told in a series of non-linear vignettes narrated by the adult Alison character. More than just a coming out or coming-of-age story, the musical has a depth of completeness that explores the relationship between children and their parents’ secret lives that ultimately exists in every family. Allentown: A Billy Joel Tribute. Join us for a celebration of Billy Joel’s release of Piano Man. It has been 51 years since Billy Joel fractured the music scene with hit after hit. Allentown is fronted by Canadian maestro, Mark Calcott. Mark’s resume includes performances at Carnegie Hall and Massey Hall in Toronto. Not only is he a virtuoso pianist, but he offers a vocal range that makes Billy Joel himself weep. He is that good. Julia Child: A Recipe for Life. New Exhibit at Ella Sharp Museum. Julia Child: A Recipe for Life, explores the key ingredients in Julia’s personal journey, which became part of America’s culinary revolution, through a series of immersive experiences. Julia’s insatiable curiosity and tenacious spirit drove her to endlessly try, test, and teach how to make delicious food. Learning empowered Julia and she in turn empowered others, profoundly transforming American cuisine and food culture. Julia Child: A Recipe for Life is a traveling exhibition produced and toured by Flying Fish, developed in collaboration with Napa Valley Museum, supported by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, the Schlesinger Library, Harvard Radcliffe Institute, and generously sponsored by Oceania Cruises. Sherry Anne in Concert. 3 PM. Jackson First United Methodist Church presents Sherry Anne in Concert in a Salute to Veterans Day. Sherry Anne is a Billboard-charting artist, author, and award-winning songwriter. She is also a four-time Singing News Fan Awards Top 10 nominee with national charting releases in Christian music radio. Born partially deaf and with a speech impairment, she brings her life story of overcoming adversity and other obstacles and shares the message of the Gospel through her speaking and music platform across the country. Mike Crupi Acoustic Showcase. 2 PM to 4 PM. Bring your guitar, bass, or play one of our keyboards to perform on our famous stage.
