Jackson County Fair.  There is so much to experience at the Jackson County Fair located at Keeley Park in  Downtown Jackson. Come out and enjoy a day or two at the fair! Fun-filled games, exciting rides, livestock, events, and tasty food! Grandstand show tonight:  Mercy Me.  Tickets can be purchased at etix.com or charged by calling (800) 514-3849.  All rides begin at 2 PM.  Monday is Senior Citizens Day, all seniors 65 and older free admission.  11 AM Senior Awards, 12 PM Family Faith.  Gate Hours:  10 AM to 11 PM.  Admission $5 for adults, $ children 6-10 $2, 5 and under free.  Complete details at JacksonCountyFair.net.

CANCELED Ward 2 Neighborhood Meeting. Residents in Jackson’s Second Ward have an opportunity to meet with their City Council representative and learn the latest news from their neighborhood. City Councilmember Freddie Dancy is holding a neighborhood meeting for Jackson’s Second Ward at the Boos Recreation Center on Monday, Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Councilmember Dancy organized the meeting for residents to get updates on projects in the neighborhood, City Council news, and police activity in the area.  This meeting has been canceled.

Bright Walls Community Mural Project.   Looking for a fun summer project? How about contributing to our community mural? Head to your local Jackson District Library branch and grab a wooden tile. Take it home and decorate it using the instructions on the tile. Return your tile to any Jackson District Library branch before Aug 20 so the Bright Walls team can assemble them for a special exhibition.  The community mural will be part of this year’s Bright Walls Bright Site.

Jackson District Library Bookmobile Coloring Contest.  How would you decorate the JDL Bookmobile? Stop by any branch starting August 1 to pick up a coloring sheet. Get creative and color or decorate the bookmobile any way you’d like. Return your coloring sheet to your branch by August 31 to be displayed.  Winners for each branch will be contacted on September 7 and receive a giant Crayola art set.  You can also download and print off the coloring sheet here.

Bright Walls Call for Artists.  Bright Walls Mural Festival has a unique opportunity for a limited number of artists who live in Jackson, Michigan. Selected artists will be invited to participate in a paint battle during the 2021 mural festival called “Bright Spaces.” If chosen, you will be painting a ground mural the size of a standard parking space.  The Bright Spaces murals will be voted on by the public and a select jury to determine the winner of the battle. The 1st place winner will be offered a spot on the Bright Walls’ Doors of Jackson roster for the 2022 festival. Places 1-4 in the voting will receive prizes.
