Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Week. The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Night of Distinction recognizes and provides visibility to individuals, volunteers, and groups that have made exceptional contributions to Jackson, making it a better place to live, work and raise a family. This special evening applauds vision, leadership, commitment, and service by awarding Community Awards as well as celebrating past & incoming board members of the Jackson Chamber. The event was postponed due to the snowstorm, but award winners will still be announced and celebrated during Community Awards Week, February 7-11. Winners will be announced on the Jackson Chamber’s Facebook page, and you can tune in to daily media tours on JTV, WKHM – Jackson’s NewsTalk Radio, 106.9 HOME.fm, and Jackson Magazine.
Jackson YMCA Winter Learning Series. Back by popular Demand – Dr. Lee Paton! Join us Monday, February 7 in the Beaman lounge at 11:30 am for our Winter Learning Series. Dr. Lee Paton, Hospice Administrator for ProMedica. Dr. Paton will be speaking on, “Understanding the Physiology of Advanced Directive Decisions. We are excited to bring this FREE series to our members and the Jackson community. This series takes place every Monday for the next two months. LGBTQ Forum. The City of Jackson and Jackson Pride Center are coming together for an LGBTQ Forum that recognizes the fifth anniversary of the Jackson Non-Discrimination Ordinance. On Monday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m., residents are welcome to attend the forum in the City Council Chambers of Jackson City Hall or watch live-streams of the event on Comcast Cable Channel 21, the City Facebook page and City website. Hosted by City Public Information Officer Aaron Dimick, the forum will feature a panel of local LGBTQ residents reflecting on the NDO’s passage, queer issues in Jackson, and what changes they’d like to see moving forward. Racism in the Military Exhibit. Michigan’s Military Heritage Museum is featuring a Michigan Humanites funded exhibit “Racism in the Military”. It is a compare and contrast of Colonel Charles Young,the third black graduate of West Point, with Major General Robert Smith a US Army Division Commander and Vietnam Veteran.
