
Vocal Dimension to Debut Nationally Recognized Work at World Premiere Concert 7 PM. Northwest High School Hosts Michigan Premiere of Tim Takach’s “We Are Phoenix” on April 22, 2025. Northwest High School is proud to announce the World Premiere Concert, taking place on April 22 at 7:00 PM in the Northwest High School cafetorium. This special concert will feature the Michigan premiere of renowned composer Tim Takach’s large-scale choral work, We Are Phoenix, performed by the school’s elite ensemble, Vocal Dimension. “We Are Phoenix” is a powerful 40-minute work that blends original choral compositions with visual art elements. In addition to We Are Phoenix, the concert will feature two additional premieres: A new choral work by composer James Battersby. An original arrangement of Northwest’s Alma Mater, crafted by one of the school’s own choir members, Emma Brugger, who will pursue music composition at the collegiate level next year. Admission is free, and all members of the community are encouraged to attend and support these exceptional young musicians.
Books and Beginnings. Families are invited to join us for Books and Beginnings at the Carnegie Library on Tuesday, April 22, 6-7:30 PM. This event is presented in partnership with the Jackson County Early Literacy Alliance (JCELA) for parents to discover free early literacy resources available to the Jackson community. Activities will include a self-guided library tour, parent read-aloud demonstration, scavenger hunt for kids, early literacy information, and refreshments. This event is free and open to the public, so be sure to join us for an evening of literacy, learning, and fun!
JFD Car Seat Inspections. 1 PM to 3 PM. Jackson area families wanting to make sure their children travel safely can take advantage of the Car Seat Inspection Program from the Jackson Fire Department. The inspections are free and no prior sign up is needed. The inspections will take place at the Jackson Central Fire Station, 518 N. Jackson St. Families are welcome to visit the fire station for the checks between 1-3 p.m. When visiting the Jackson Central Fire Station, pull into the south driveway of the fire station off of N. Jackson Street. Drive around the building past a yellow tower. There will be three large bay doors and a parking lot in front of them to park in. Firefighters will greet you once you’ve parked. Firefighters request parents or guardians bring their children and car seats to the inspection. Crews will look to make sure the car seat is in proper working order, fastened to the vehicle correctly, and is a safe fit for the child. A limited number of car seat replacements are available for free if firefighters find a seat is unsafe.
Ask a Master Gardener. 10 AM to 2 PM. Whether you’re giving gardening a go for the first time or you’re looking to take your lawn to the next level, Ask a Master Gardener is your chance to get expert answers to all your questions at the Eastern Branch. Each month will feature a different topic, however, any and all gardening questions are welcome! Everything from how to plant for pollinators to if and when to use mulch, the Master Gardeners are looking forward to helping you and your garden thrive. Auditions for The Hunchback of Notre Dame. 6:30 PM. Center Stage Jackson is hosting an open casting call for The Hunchback of Notre Dame. All roles are available. There are five principal acting roles: three men, one woman, and one that can be any gender. The production will also feature an acting ensemble of 10-14 people, consisting of at least five men and five women, who will play various supporting and cameo roles, including Gypsies (Roma), gargoyles, statues, soldiers, and citizens of Paris. There will also be a choral ensemble of 16+ singers. Show dates are June 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 & 29 at Jackson College Potter Center, The Baughman Theater.
