Advance Turning & Manufacturing Hiring Event. 3 PM to 6 PM. Job seekers can jumpstart their career in manufacturing and get paid to learn with a new collaboration between Jackson College and Advance Turning & Manufacturing. In just eight weeks of paid training, applicants can have a career in the CNC/machining field Advance Turning and Manufacturing manufactures products for the aerospace and medical industries, among others. All those interested are invited to learn more and apply at a hiring event Jan. 10 from 3-6 p.m. at Jackson’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 1107 Adrian St., Jackson MI 49203. Jackson College and Michigan Works! southeast staff will be available to explore possible job training dollars available. Macrame Wall Hanging Workshop. 5 PM. Join local Jackson-area fiber artist, April Vilminot of Skeins of Valor, for a fun workshop where you get to create a trendy Macrame wall hanging. Gear Up: The Science of Bikes. Final month! From schoolyards and mountain trails to bustling city streets, we encounter bicycles nearly every day. Since its inception in the late 19th century, the bicycle has affected how people live, work, and play. Its popularity has only grown over time, and it is as relevant today as it was 100 ago. Visitors of GEAR UP will learn how bikes work, the science and technology behind the machine as well as the history and evolution of the bike and how bikes have impacted our culture. Like the bicycle itself, this exhibition has been designed to appeal to people of all ages with diverse interests, from STEM to design to history to art. Ella Sharp Museum.

MLK Celebration & Diversity Breakfast

The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce invites you to the annual MLK Diversity Breakfast, sponsored by AARP Michigan. The Mission of the MLK Diversity Breakfast is to promote community collaboration to reflect Dr. King’s dream and to motivate youth for service and excellence.
This event includes breakfast and also includes a video presentation showcasing children’s artwork that represents the work of Martin Luther King Jr., a project created by Jackson School of the Arts.
Special Speaker: This year’s community celebration features Aidan Sova, who serves on the Growing Michigan Together Council for the State of Michigan as well as the Board of Trustees for Ann Arbor District Library, and is a proud Jackson native.

Rev. Carol Gallentine is a walking library for many ceremonial songs. She has lead “INIPI” (Sweat Lodge) ceremonies for the past 25 years, is a Sacred Pipe holder, Spiritual Counselor, Spiritualist Minister and Advanced CranioSacral Therapist.
Carol is the keeper of “GRANDMOTHER DRUM” gifted to her by an Elder. She will share her knowledge of the drum, teach sacred songs and help you to experience the sacredness of drumming, as well as it’s playful side.
What to bring: your drums, rattles, your voice and curiosity, Carol will have extra drums and rattles available.
Ticket price: $10 at the door
