The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce is hosting at Ribbon Cutting at the Cascades Humane Society today to unveil the new addition at 1515 Carmen Drive, Jackson, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. The addition, built by O’Harrow Construction Company, will allow Cascades Humane Society to house more animals and better serve the public. CHS is celebrating their expansion with tours of the facility and new space. Light refreshments will be served.

The Hurst Planetarium at Ella Sharp Museum presents Phantom of the Universe, The Hunt for Dark Matter. Join us as we showcase an exciting exploration of dark matter, from the Big Bang to its anticipated discovery at the Large Hadron Collider. See the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky, the scientist who coined the term “dark matter.” From there explore the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda Galaxy and then plummet deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth, housed in a former gold mine. Finally journey across space and time to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, to learn how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter. 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
