Boys Basketball

Jackson 70, Ypsilanti Community 51: Sherquan Wilson scored 20 points and Tristen Cawthon added 10 points for Jackson in the live home win on JTV. 

Concord 50, Springport 48: Mekhi Wingfield hit a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining in the contest giving Concord the win. He finished with 22 points, Jett Smith added 12 points, and Connor Stevens finished with 10 points for Concord (15-5 overall, 11-0 Big 8). Braydon Hawes finished with 13 points and nine rebounds and Tucker Wiginton added 12 points for the Spartans. Springport erased a 12-point deficit in the second half and took the lead with 11 seconds remaining before Wingfield’s dagger. 

Northwest 47, Hastings 42: The Mounties pulled closer to the .500 mark with the home win Friday. Northwest is 9-11 overall for the season. Northwest is 6-4 in the Interstate-Eight Conference. 

Western 51, Marshall 47: The Panthers erased a three-point deficit at halftime earning a win on senior night. Western is still undefeated in the Interstate-Eight Conference with one conference game remaining. 

Girls Basketball

Columbia Central 36, Hanover-Horton 29: The Golden Eagles won the low scoring contest Friday night. Jaylen Lambka scored 12 points and Cece Slat and Hailey Freshcorn each scored 10 points to pace CCHS. Hanover-Horton was led by Morgan Kuhl with 10 points and Maggie Soper with eight points. CCHS secured a Cascades Conference Western Division title with the victory and will face Grass Lake next Saturday at Spring Arbor University for the conference championship. 

Napoleon 42, Manchester 41: Gracie Tallman hit two free throws with 12 seconds remaining in the contest to secure the win. She finished with 10 points and Maggie Beer scored 12 points for Napoleon.

Competitive Cheer Districts

Division 3 at Grosse Ile: Columbia Central High School finished 11th with 613 points in the D-3 district. It took a score of 720 to advance to regionals. 

Division 4 at Jonesville: Michigan Center, Hanover-Horton, Quincy, and Jonesville advanced to the regional round. The Cardinals won the event scoring 732 and Hanover-Horton was second with 718. Concord finished eighth (597), Lumen Christi placed ninth (593), Springport was 10th (586), and Vandercook Lake finished 11th (566). It took a score of 692 to advance to the regional next week at Michigan Center. 

Bowling

Michigan Center 20, East Jackson 10: Kaden Mortzfield finished with a 183 game for East Jackson. Aaden Burdge tallied a 203 game for the Cardinals to lead all scorers.  

Grass Lake 30, Leslie 0: The Warriors secured a Cascades Conference title with the home win at Suburban Lanes. Brice Sandoval finished with a 501 series – his first career 500 series. Max Schafran finished with a 420 series and Frank Bednarski rolled a 407 set for Grass Lake. 

Girls Bowling

Michigan Center 25, East Jackson 5: Kylie Lamb bowled a 329 series to lead the Cardinals. East Jackson was led by Tessa Wyngaert with a 350 series. 

Hockey

Lumen Christi 2, Eastside 1 (OT): Isaiah Dinverno scored the winning goal in overtime giving LCCHS the road win. Hayden Guilbault scored the other goal for the Titans. 

College Athletic Events

Bowling

Spring Arbor at Crossroads League: Spring Arbor University finished second in both events, losing by two pins in the women’s event. Huntington University finished with 6,772 pins and SAU 6,770 in the women’s match. Marian University defeated Spring Arbor by 68 pins in the men’s match, 7,172-7,114. This was the fourth Crossroads League jamboree and SAU has won three of them on both sides of the alley. 

Baseball

Spring Arbor 14, Warner (FLA) 7: Braydon Gregory had two triples and knocked in five runs giving SAU its first win of the season. 

Warner 9, Spring Abor 7: Warner scored five times in the sixth inning to pull ahead. Jake Zeeb knocked in two runs and Brennan Moran finished with two hits for SAU (1-4). 

Softball

Spring Arbor 4, Brescia 0: Emmalee Hamp pitched five strong innings striking out 11 batters to earn the win for Spring Arbor. Brooke Meeker knocked in a pair of runs for SAU (2-1). The second game at Owensboro, KY, was postponed.
