Jackson, Michigan– Grass Lake has officially recognized 35 students as “Tri-Athletes.” They serve as the the inaugural group of three season athletes. The Warrior athletes earned distinction for their participation in all three of the high school sports seasons (fall, winter and spring).

As many kids got closer to high school, they begin to narrow the field of their sports participation, some by choice and the natural culling process. Others because someone else thinks it’s best. Many now end up playing only one sport.

Multi sport athletes see a variety of benefits. These range from fewer overuse injuries, less opportunity for emotional burn-out, exposure to different kids and even exposure to different roles. The two latter being critical skills for the “real world.” Playing more than one sport also means kids aren’t putting all of their eggs in one basket. Playing only one sport limits student’s options.

For their dedication and accomplishment throughout the school year, the Grass Lake students were given a shirt, a patch for their varsity jacket and will have their name on the three season athlete board for the next year.
