Nineteenth Year of High School Football Coming on JTV

JTV Sports will return with presentations of High School Football this year. This will be JTV's 19th year of consecutive coverage of varsity athletics throughout Jackson County. JTV Sports | August 5th, 2019 | JTV Sports Staff JTV Sports’ nineteenth season of High School Football coverage begins at the end of this month. Since JTV began coverage of High School Sports in 2000, nearly 50,000 high school student-athletes have appeared in over 3,000 games telecast on JTV.   JTV offers complete game coverage, as well as programs like The Locker Room, Aspen One-Hour Football Show, Thursday Night Hoops and other specials. JTV has earned the distinction of being “The World Leader in Local High School Sports Television.” Each week during the regular and post-season, JTV covers 3 to 4 games, with play-by-play and color commentators, instant replays, graphics and several in-game features. Alligator Found in Jackson County

In as many days, a second alligator has been discovered in Michigan. This time the gator was discovered in Jackson County, Michigan by a resident of Hanover Township. JTV News | June 28th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Deputy Bahnsen of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Roundtree Road in Hanover Township, where allegedly an alligator had been located in the yard of the residence. The home owner advised that the alligator came from a pond and swamp area onto his property and was walking across the yard. When the Sherrif's Deputy arrived, he found the resident holding the alligator with a fishing net, waiting until the Deputy Bahnson could assist him. Following its discovery and capture, the alligator was transported to the Jackson County Animal Shelter. A man near Lansing found an alligator on the side of the road yesterday as well. Lumen Christi’s Keegan Smith commits to CMU football

Lumen Christi offensive lineman Keegan Smith has committed to play in Mount Pleasant for Central Michigan University's football program. Lumen Christi's football program is coming off of their third straight state championship win. JTV Sports | June 25th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Keegan Smith will become a Chippewa and play for Central Michigan University's football program, he announced via Twitter. New head coach Jim McElwain will benefit from his verbal commit to the program, as he will become a member of the 2020 recruiting class for the University. 57-year-old McElwain was 22-12 over parts of three seasons at Florida. He won 19 games and earned SEC Coach of the Year honors. At Colorado State, he turned the Rams into a 10-win program and second-place finisher in the Mountain West Conference. At Alabama he served as offensive coordinator and formed a relationship with CMU athletic director Michael Alford. he also coached at Michigan State from 2003 to 2005. He’ll be hoping to turn around a Chippewas football team that went a program-worst 1-11 in their 2018 campaign. 2018-19 MHSAA Parade of Champions

A total of 105 schools won one or more of the 128 Michigan High School Athletic Association team championships awarded during 2018-19, with two teams earning the first Finals championship in any sport in their schools’ histories. JTV Sports | June 20th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Ypsilanti Lincoln celebrated its first MHSAA Finals championship by winning the Division 1 boys basketball title in the winter, and Millington claimed its first by earning the Division 3 softball championship this spring. A total of 19 schools won two or more championships this school year, paced by two schools winning four: Pewamo-Westphalia won in boys basketball, girls basketball, competitive cheer and girls track & field; and Marquette won in boys skiing, girls skiing, girls swimming & diving and girls track & field. Five schools won three MHSAA Finals championships: Bronson, Detroit Country Day, East Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern and Hudsonville Unity Christian. Winning two titles in 2018-19 were Chassell, Detroit Catholic Central, Houghton, Ishpeming, Ishpeming Westwood, Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep, Lake Orion, Negaunee, Ontonagon, Sault Ste. Albion College to Play Against Michigan State University in Men’s Hoops

Albion College, the 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament champions, will tip off the men’s basketball season with an October 29th exhibition game against Big Ten Champion and Final Four participant Michigan State University. JTV Sports | June 20th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Tip time and any television coverage for Albion College's game against the Spartans will be announced at a later date. In addition to giving Albion a powerful test prior to its November 8th opener at the University of Mount Union- the exhibition also means Albion guards Zachary and Khy Winston will play against their older brother Cassius. Spring Arbor’s Chris Bauman Named Sports Information Director of the Year

The Crossroads League announced on Tuesday that Chris Bauman from Spring Arbor University had been named its 2018-2019 Sports Information Director of the Year. The award is the first for Bauman, who recently completed his fifth year as the SID for the Cougars. The award is the first for Bauman, who recently completed his fifth year as the SID for the Cougars. Bauman and his department stayed busy throughout the 2018-2019 year, providing critical coverage of the success of multiple SAU teams and student-athletes on the national level. The Cougars won the NAIA Division II National Championship in men’s basketball, were NAIA National Tournament Semifinalists in women’s soccer and secured a pair of individual NAIA National Championships in track and field. Two Michigan Center Students Sign to Play Baseball at Glen Oak

Two Michigan Center student athletes have signed to attend Glen Oaks. Cardinals baseball players Jordan Cooper and Andy Piloske will now be playing for the Vikings in Centreville, Michigan. JTV Sports | May 31st, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Two Michigan Center student athletes have signed to attend Glen Oaks and play baseball for the Vikings. The Cardinal baseball players, Jordan Cooper and Andy Piloske will now be playing in Centreville, Michigan. Jordan Cooper both pitches and plays first base. Andy Piloske plays second base. Both of them will now be playing same positions at the next level. Cooper is in a rare situation, where he'll be playing both. Piloske is currently hitting an impressive .384. That figure is good for 10 doubles and 3 triples on the year. Cooper is hitting .493 overall. Good for 11 doubles and five home runs, as well as a total of 36 RBIs. He has pitched 52.2 innings and maintains a record of 9-1. With 80 total strikeouts, he currently has a 1.72 ERA. Jets Golfer named honorable mention All-American

Jackson College Jets golfer Riley Hestwood has been named an honorable mention All-American following last week’s National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Nationals. JTV Sports | May 30th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Jackson College Jets golfer Riley Hestwood has been named an honorable mention All-American following last week’s NJCAA Division II Nationals. Hestwood, a freshman at Jackson College, finished in a tie for 24th place out of a field of 132 total golfers. After four days of golf, eight games in four rounds, Hestwood finished at 17 over par. “Riley did an excellent job playing the four days under difficult conditions at times,” said Walt Paszkiet, head coach of the Jet's program. “He managed his game very well. Jackson can be very proud of this young man” All-America honors are presented to the top 26 finishers (plus ties) at the NJCAA DII Men's Golf Championship. Northwest Baseball Sweeps Manchester

Northwest's Baseball team swept Manchester in a pair of contests on their Senior night. The Mounties won by tallies of 8-0 and 10-2. This was also their final pair of home contests this year. JTV Sports | May 30th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Northwest High School's baseball team closed out their home appearances this season in proper fashion, sweeping a pair of contests against Manchester. Not only was it the Mounties final pair of home games for the year, but it was also Senior Night for the program. The Northwest Mounties won the first contest by a tally of 8-0. The second win came more easily, with a final of 10-2. Seniors closing out their playing careers included Dakota Hitt, Gibson Wait, Sawyer Epstein, Brandon Bostwick, and Bailey Bostwick. Gibson Wait pitched seven innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out four and walking one in the first contest. Sawyer Epstein pitched for Northwest in the second game. He allowed one hit and one run over three innings, striking out one and walking zero. Grass Lake Softball Wins Pre-District Over Onsted 10-5

The Grass Lake Warriors Softball team won their pre-district contest against Onsted 10-5. After defeating the Wildcats, the Warriors now advance to district play at noon on Saturday against Manchester. JTV Sports | May 30th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray The Grass Lake Softball team won their pre-district contest against Onsted 10-5.  An early lead gave the Warriors the momentum that they needed for a victory. Kaysey Cook was on the mound for the Warriors. She allowed 4 hits, 5 runs and struck out 10 while only walking 1, per grasslakewarriors.com. Offensively, the Warriors dominated the game with a total of 10 hits including back-to-back home runs by Dana Peterson (3 runs) and Chance Macomber (solo) in the second inning. Macomber lead the offense by going 4-for-4 in the game. After defeating the Wildcats, the Warriors now advance to district play at noon this Saturday (June 1st) against Manchester.
