Jackson, Michigan– Another Jackson Area Athlete has signed to play collegiate athletics. Torey Higgs of Vandercook Lake High School has signed to play basketball at Siena Heights University in Adrian. Higgs earned multiple varsity letters while at Vandy, and made huge contributions on the floor for the program.
The Jayhawks finished their 2018-2019 campaign with an overall record of 11-10. Their season started hot however. Really hot. The team strung together a 6-1 record to open the year- with their only loss by a margin of a single bucket. Just one year ago the team only won a pair of games, going 2-19. Those days are long gone for Vandercook Lake’s varsity basketball team.
This means a lot to the schools. We want our kids to go off to college and better themselves. It’s a bonus he gets to play and gets a scholarship. This is also great for our program because it proved that kids can move on to the next level – Head Coach, James Bradley
The team that Higgs will be joining has seen success of late as well. They finished last season 17-13. That may not seem impressive, but the NAIA school frequently has a stacked schedule, playing powerhouses like Cornerstone University.

Higgs signing day was attended by his parents, teammates and classmates. “We’re very proud of you,” said staff and administrators during the ceremony. A round of photos was taken as soon as the letter had been officially signed.
It’s always been a dream of mine to play college basketball. It took a lot of hard work.. it was a matter of putting in the hard work. And how much I wanted it – Vandercook Student Athlete, Torey Higgs
