(May 19, 2023 11:25 AM) Jackson College is offering more than a dozen summer camps and programs for area students and community members this year. There’s something for everyone, whether you love sports, art, or learning new things. Jackson College programs and camps are designed to provide attendees a great time while developing skills and making new friends. Summer camps and activities include:

Boys Youth Basketball Camp

June 19-21, 1-4 p.m.

First through sixth grades

Boys in first through sixth grades can learn the game at Boys Youth Basketball Camp, June 19-21 from 1-4 p.m. in Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse at Jackson College. Campers will learn fundamentals of the game and practice drills with past and future Jets players. They may participate in competitions and 3-on-3 games to practice their skills. Summer Theatre Camp

June 19-29 (weekdays), 2-4 p.m.

Ages 12-18

Explore improvisation methods used at Chicago’s Second City to perform a scripted scene. Focus on improv and memorization skills to enhance character development, while having a ton of fun! Camp will be led by Second City Alumni and Jackson College Theatre Instructor Sara Anne Tomczak. With years of acting experience, Sara Anne is currently appearing on NBC’s “Chicago Fire.”

Summer Art Camp

July 18, 19 & 20, 9-11 a.m.

Ages 8-13

Young people are welcome to get creative at art camp! Cost is just $40. Projects include tie dye canvas bag, printmaking and watercolor. Adjunct instructor and local teacher Lacina Stieber will teach camp.

Health Professions Summer Boot Camp

June 19-22, 26-29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Grades 11 & 12

Free

High school students interested in a future career in healthcare are invited to this two-week boot camp to gain an introduction to options available. Get a head start on what your future could look like, learn about career opportunities from college faculty and get insights on how you can make the best decision for your future!

Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs Manufacturing Camp

July 31 – Aug. 4  9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Grades 5 – 8

Jackson College is collaborating with Shop Rats Foundation to offer a middle school aged manufacturing camp. Students will run milling machines, lathe turning machines, fabrication and welding along with hand tools and small power equipment. Lunch provided each day. Cost $66.
