(April 22, 2020 4:55 PM) Jackson College has announced that its nursing program (Associate of Applied Science – Registered Nurse) has received national accreditation status through the National League of Nursing-Commission on Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN-CNEA).

The pursuit of this prestigious designation was inspired by the College’s Total Commitment to Student Success,” said Dean of Career and Technical Education, Dr. Jan Karazim. Accreditation is a validation of the educational quality, and while Jackson College’s associate degree in nursing program has long held the approval of the Michigan State Board of Nursing deeming graduates eligible for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) to earn their RN status, NLN-CNEA accreditation is an additional and nationally recognized award that must be earned and then maintained.

According to Jackson College, this achievement did not come without significant work to prepare the extensive self-study report and subsequent campus visit of NLN-CNEA reviewers. “While there were many Jackson College employees and community members involved in this multi-year, time-intensive process, it was the Jackson College nursing faculty who truly made this possible,” Karazim said. The program’s initial accreditation status is effective for a maximum term of six years, beginning Oct. 31, 2019, and terminating Feb. 28, 2026.

Jackson College offers programs leading to careers as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and an LPN to RN bridge. To learn more about any programs, visit the website at www.jccmi.edu/program/nursing/.
