Baseball

Hanover-Horton 10, Homer 4: The Comets won the single game Thursday at Homer, scoring seven times in the second inning. Lukas Nadell finished with two hits and two RBIs and Channing Hull and Hunter Fox each recorded a pair of hits for Hanover-Horton. 

Springport 12, Stockbridge 2: Bo Lightner finished with two hits and four RBIs for Springport. Gavin Lightner added three hits and Gibson Overweg struck out 12 batters for the Spartans in the victory. 

Springport 12, Stockbridge 7 – The Spartans scored eight times in the last two innings to earn the sweep. Marshall Shoemaker collected three hits and knocked in one run and Hunter Miller and Rylin Hale added two hits apiece for the Spartans. 

Eaton Rapids 8, Western 2: Eaton Rapids scored six times in the sixth inning to pull out the win. Jake LaPorte finished with two of the Panthers’ six hits in the game. 

Eaton Rapids 11, Western 1: Cody Spitzer finished with two hits and one run batted in for the Panthers. 

Softball

Hanover-Horton 5, Leslie 1: Mayson Scally hit a home run in the first inning as the Comets jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Alexyn DuBois pitched all seven innings striking out nine batters. Ada Bradford went over the 1,000 strikeout mark in the contest for Leslie. 

Hanover-Horton 5, Leslie 4 (8 innings): Adrianna Fogg hit a home run in the first inning as the Blackhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead. But the Comets came back with home runs by Mayson Scally and Dani Riggs. 

Quincy 12, Concord 10: The two teams completed a game from earlier in the week. Concord scored five runs in the sixth inning, but it was not enough as Quincy scored twice in the seventh inning to pull out the victory. Hannah Stimer finished with three RBIs to lead Concord. 

Grass Lake 14, Bronson 4: The Warriors scored eight runs in the fourth inning to pull out the victory. Bree Salts finished with four hits – including a home run – and four RBIs in the contest. Rylee Fitzpatrick had three hits and two RBIs and Olivia Turner tallied three hits and an RBI for Grass Lake (10-0 overall). 

Grass Lake 2, Bronson 1: Emily Brown hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the victory. Mo Conrad earned the win in relief for Grass Lake. 

Springport 18, Stockbridge 0:Morgan Shoemaker and Devan Lowe each finished with three hits and three RBIs in the Springport win. 

Springport 22, Stockbridge 0: The Spartans finished with 25 hits on the night. They scored 13 runs in the first inning of game two. Chloey Speer hit a home run and knocked in three runs and Ava Lovely knocked in four runs for Springport. 

Western 10, Eaton Rapids 8: The Panthers won its first game of the season with a road win at Eaton Rapids. Abby Nieswender finished with five RBIs for the Panthers with a home run and two other hits for Western. Bayli Stewart and Nicole Wilson each finished with three hits for Western. 

Eaton Rapids 7, Western 6: Western scored two times in the bottom of the last inning but could not tie the game. Abby Nieswender hit another home run and knocked in three runs for Western. Bayli Steward and Ashlyn Yeo each collected two hits for Western (1-7).

Jackson Christian 9, Stockbridge 1

Boys Golf

Coldwater Invitational: Lumen Christi Catholic High School finished fourth (322), Northwest was sixth (325), and Jackson High placed 12th at Coldwater Golf Course Thursday. Cody Rowe of Northwest earned medalist honors with a 71, Adam Fuller of LCCHS was 15th scoring a 79, and Carsyn Barkholz of Jackson finished 18th with an 80. 

Cascades Jamboree at Calderone: Leslie High School earned the first jamboree win in the new expanded Cascades Conference at Calderone Golf Club. The Blackhawks finished with a four-man total of 355 for 18 holes. Columbia Central was second (368), Hanover-Horton was third (380), Grass Lake was fourth (393), Michigan Center finished sixth (403), Napoleon placed eighth (420), and Vandercook Lake was 11th (565). Lucas Schwartz of Addison earned medalist honors with an 81 on the par 72 course, Hoyt Wrona of Hanover-Horton was second scoring 82, Hayden Carter of CCHS tied for fourth with an 87, and Tucker Scheithauer of Columbia Central tied for 10th with a 91. 

Girls Tennis

Columbia Central 8, Onsted 0: The Golden Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season with a victory over Onsted. CCHS swept the singles losing only three games in the process with wins by Ayrianne Gaskill, Morgan Fausz, Iliana Fowle, and Lily Ellison. 

Western 8, Northwest 0: Natalie Hyde won of Western her match the quickest giving her the opportunity to wear the Victory Poncho – given to the first player to get a win that day. The Panthers improved to 7-2 on the season and 1-0 in the conference

College Athletic Events

Baseball

Jackson 4, Henry Ford 3: The Jets scored three runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game. Jackson scored four runs on five hits led by Jared Krams with one hit and one RBI in the contest. 

Henry Ford 10, Jackson 6: Henry Ford posted eight runs in the third inning to overcome the Jets. Henry Major and Jared Kramp both finished with two hits and two RBIs for JC. The Jets are now 19-16 for the season, 11-4 in conference play. Jackson College will host Henry Ford Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
