After more than five months of no high school athletic runs, cross country runners were cut loose at Addison High School on Saturday.
Lenawee Christian dominated the Addison Early Bird Cross Country Invitational featuring four of the smaller school in the Adrian area.
The Cougars easily won the boys’ cross country event by placing five runners in the top seven. Lenawee Christian finished with 17 points, Morenci had 37, Britton-Deerfield scored 73 points, and Addison failed to post a team score of five runners in the boys’ event.
The girls’ event was a little closer as Lenawee Christian scored 31 points, Morenci was second with 45, Britton-Deerfield finished with 57 points, and Addison scored 91.
In the boys’ event, Levi Lange of Lenawee Christian ran the 5K course in 18 minutes, 5 seconds for first place. Teammate Grant Long was second at 18:24. The teammates ran together for the first two miles, but Lange kicked it into gear in the final mile.
Morenci runner Bryson Bachelder was third (19:12), Josh Green of LCHS was fourth (19:35), and Addison runner Robbie Michalowski finished fifth overall at 19:56.
The top 10 runners in each race earned medals.
In the girls’ event, Brooke Hildebrandt of Lenawee Christian was first with a time of 21:35. Morenci claimed the next two spots as Neili Pike (22:55) and Libby Rorick (23:25) ran second and third.
Britton-Deerfield runner Sara Bower finished fourth in 23:57.
Addison runner Maggie Frost was 12th overall in 28:27.
