(July 16, 2021 5:12 PM) Michigan reported 881* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 896,717.

Michigan is reporting 16** COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 19,848.

*Note on cases (07/13/2021): Today’s case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since Friday, July 9th.  Over the four days (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday), the average number of new confirmed cases is ~162 per day.

**The deaths announced today includes 27 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. Regular reviews of death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems are conducted by MDHHS staff two times per week. As a part of this process, records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case and that record in the MDSS does not indicate the individual died, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths are then included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website. As a result of the most recent assessment, today’s data includes 7 additional deaths identified by this methodology.

State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 7/9/21): 870,140.

Information is updated Tuesday and Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.
