(8-21-2026, 12:00PM): After a 6-4 record and the first playoff appearance in four years, the Jonesville Comets are no longer content with just making the playoffs.

Entering his 10th season at the helm in Jonesville is head coach Frank Keller. His team is returning almost their entire varsity roster from a year ago, only losing one starter on offense and two on defense. They foresee themselves making the playoffs once again and will be able to use their playoff experience to influence a different outcome. Keller also is the defensive play caller.

In the 52-12 loss to Bronson in the district semifinals, Jonesville said they “just got outplayed” at the line of scrimmage. The Comets feel outsiders may believe they’re not strong due to the manner of that defeat. Jonesville has used the playoff eye-opener as fuel for off-season workouts; to build up their strength and bond as a team to be in a better position to win a game like that.

Jonesville will debut their new football facility in week three against Napoleon. Keller is excited for the Comets to play on the new field, as he said, “I wish we could open up week one on the new field… It’s a great opportunity for everybody to play on the new field.” Along with the excitement for the new, there is remembrance for the old. Keller said, “the old field was one of the best football fields to watch a game. It’s going to be missed.”

Cameron Keller will be entering his second season as the offensive coordinator. It will again be a rush heavy approach led by senior running back John Milks, the Comets leading rusher each of the last three seasons with over 1,600 yards and 18 TDs a season ago. Milks will be running through gaps opened by a “young, smaller, athletic” offensive line, as described by Frank Keller. Milks likes to watch his offensive line and is excited to see them take the field on gameday. Junior center, Maverick Baker, said, “I like watching him [Milks] run past me.”

This will be Frank Keller’s second season calling the plays for his “quick” defense. Their strong suit will be in the front seven with strong linebackers and linemen that can contain the opponents rushing attack. Keller believes it, “could be one of our better years,” defensively.

Keller said the Comets schedule is “brutal” and full of close games. He said, “this year we could be 9-0 or 1-8, it’s going to be that tight. We have got to be ready and prepare every week.”
