Springport Looks To Build Off Historic 2024 Season; Compete For Big 8 Title

(8-18-2025, 12:00PM): – After finishing 8-3 and winning their first ever playoff game in 2024, Springport looks to continue to build off that historic season and win big in 2025.

HC Ben Pack returns for his second year with the Spartans. Pack was previously at Manchester for several years before moving to Springport.

This season also is a family affair for some of the Spartans. Brothers Gibson and Rip Overweg will wear the jersey together along with cousin Stone Overweg. Matt Overweg, the dad of Gibson and Rip, is also serving as an assistant coach. Two other sets of brothers include Kaden & Kolton Woyame, and Jake & Andrew Kregel.

Key returning players include seniors Gibson Overweg (QB/S), Stone Overweg (S/TE), Brendan Barrett (LB), Gavin Lightner (LB/TE/K/QB), Josh Earls (OL), and junior Tucker Wiginton (WR/DB).

Other Spartans expected to make an impact include seniors Kaden Woyame (RB/WR), Jacob Potter, Caden Ordland (LB/TE), Eli Worth (OL/DL), Braden Whitaker (OL/DL), and juniors Dallas Higelmire (WR), and Dallas Patterson (OL).

Coach Pack will continue the offensive playcalling and defensive coordinator AJ Sprague returns for his second year with the varsity squad.

Pack says they have seen 82% participation in summer workouts and uses the WIN motto (What’s Important Now), and execution is a big focus.

Goals for the 2025 season include keeping everyone safe, playing one play at a time, and avoiding injuries to compete for the Big 8 championship.
