(May 29, 2023 1:12 PM ET) Three Jackson County tennis teams will be looking for success in the Michigan High School Athletic Association girls’ tennis finals starting on Friday.

Western High School will compete in the Division 3 finals at University of Michigan/Dexter High School while Lumen Christi and Columbia Central will be competing at Kalamazoo in Division 4. 

Western won its second consecutive regional title in Division 3 and won the Interstate-8 Conference title this season.

Doubles play at the Division 3 state finals will be held at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center at 2250 S. State St., Ann Arbor. Singles’ competition will be held at Dexter High School, 2200 N. Parker, Dexter. 

In case of weather problems, the indoor courts at U of M will be used. 

Friday play is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. 

Semifinals and finals will be held at U of M on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. 

Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University will host the Division 4 finals. First, second, and third singles will be played at Stowe Stadium at Kalamazoo College beginning at 8:15 a.m. Friday. The remainder of the field will play at Western Michigan University beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Lumen Christi swept the points at the regional two weeks ago and Columbia Central was second. The Titans tied for fourth place in Division 4 last year with 14 points.

Stowe Stadium will host all play on Saturday and a number of indoor courts in the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek area will be used in case of inclement weather.

Teams earn points for matches won during the state finals to determine a state champions. Individual medals are also given to top performers in each of the four flights.
