(2-6-2025, 10:30PM): Grit and defense: That’s what Grass Lake has lived on this season, and that continued on Thursday night. The Warriors kept it rolling to move to 17-0 after defeating 13-4 Michigan Center 43-27.
Jacob Collins scored five of seven first quarter points for GL, as they led 7-5 after the opening quarter. After leading 11-7 early in the second, the Cardinals answered with seven straight points to take a 14-11 lead. Collins and Bryant Cook scored the last four points of the half to give the Warriors a 15-14 lead at halftime.
After Michigan Center evened it up at 17 apiece, the Warriors answered with seven straight to take a 24-17 lead. They led 24-20 after three quarters.
The Cardinals got as close as five in the final quarter, but couldn’t respond to the grit and defense from Grass Lake to close things out. The Warriors outscored MC 19-7 in the final quarter to take home a 43-27 victory at Michigan Center on Thursday night.
Brayden Lape and Jacob Collins each scored 14 points for Grass Lake, Bryant Cook added 10 points and 15 rebounds. Michigan Center was led by Jayden Watson with 13 points.
“Tonight was the first step to winning a conference championship. We got it done and now gonna compete for the title on the 15th” said Grass Lake coach Marshawn Norris. “Respect to them (MC), they’re a really good team but our guys worked really hard through a physical game”.
Grass Lake improves to a historic 17-0 mark and officially clinched the Cascades-East division; they will face Columbia Central for the conference championship next Saturday (2/15) at SAU. Michigan Center falls to 15-5 and will play on Tuesday (2/11) at East Jackson.
