(2-24-2024 9:50PM): What started out as a close, low-scoring affair ended up in a rout by the Grass Lake Warriors over the Columbia Central Golden Eagles on Saturday night at Spring Arbor University.
GL led Columbia just 8-3 after the opening quarter. Kolie Brown scored for the Eagles and Reese Lape along with Olivia Turner opened the scoring for the Warriors.
Grass Lake opened the second quarter on a 10-3 run in the first four minutes. Turner added a three-pointer along with points from Aspen Cook, Bre Salts, and Grace Bullock within the four minutes.
Brown and Cecelia Slat each scored in the second for the Golden Eagles. Kate Starkey, who was named the Cascades Conference MVP, scored eight in that quarter as they led 25-12.
The Warriors continued to pour it on in the second half, allowing just one point in the third quarter to make it 42-13. Lauren Lutchka scored six points in the third for Grass Lake.
Emma Shafer scored seven points in the final quarter for Columbia Central along with three other Eagles to round out the scoring. Grass Lake came away with a 53-27 win on Saturday night.
Kate Starkey led the Warriors with 16 points, Olivia Turner scored 9, Lauren Lutchka added 8 and Reese Lape tallied 7 points. Emma Shafer led Columbia Central with 8 points and Cecelia Slat added 7.
Grass Lake has now won their 8th straight Cascades Conference championship (including winning a share in 2020 and 2023) and the 17th in school history. Columbia Central finishes second in their first year rejoining the Cascades.
