(February 5, 2022 5:20 PM) Wrestling took center stage on Friday and Saturday in Jackson County. Wrestlers from Jackson won a number of conference championships and Napoleon tied for the Cascades Conference title on Friday night at Manchester.

Here is a look at the results from five conference finals involving Jackson County schools: 

Cascades Conference finals at Manchester: Napoleon and Manchester earned a share of the Cascades Conference wrestling title as the Pirates won the conference final on Friday at Manchester. The Pirates finished with 240.5 points, Manchester was second with 170, Addison finished third scoring 105, Hanover-Horton placed fourth with 82.5, East Jackson scored 69 points, Grass Lake was sixth with 42 points, East Jackson scored 39 points, and Vandercook Lake tallied 16 points. Antonio Bocanegra won the title for Napoleon at 103 pounds; David Fielder of Hanover-Horton took first place at 125 pounds; Deegan Herman won the title at 130 pounds for Napoleon; Ian Albert of Napoleon took first place at 140 pounds; Hunter Callahan of Napoleon won the title at 145 pounds; Mason Roth made it three in a row for Napoleon with a win at 152 pounds; Nick Marienfeld improved to 42-0 with a win at 160 pounds for Napoleon; Aiden Nugent took first place for Napoleon at 189 pounds; and Brady Brooks of Napoleon took first place at 285 pounds. 

LCAA at Clinton: Columbia Central finished seventh as a team at the Lenawee County Athletic Association final at Clinton. Dundee won the title, Clinton was second, and Hudson claimed third at the LCAA tournament. Christian Millican finished third at 103 pounds and Jordan Cromwell was third at 112 pounds for CCHS. 

Big Eight Conference at Jonesville: Joe Sunkle of Springport won the 135-pound weight class during the Big Eight Conference championship at Jonesville. Matt Riehle took first place for the Spartans at 171 pounds. Springport finished third to Union City and Bronson and Concord finished eighth. 

SEC Finals at Jackson: Trevor Morehouse won the SEC title at 112 pounds with a pin and a major win. Tyler Bonner finished second at 145 pounds for the Vikings. Kyle Bonner finished third for Jackson at 285 pounds. Jackson finished fifth as a team as Bedford won the championship. 

Interstate-8 Conference final at Hastings: Hastings won the Interstate-8 Conference title with a win at the conference finals at home. Northwest finished second at the conference final, Western was third, and Lumen Christi finished seventh. Dominic Honsinger won the title for Western at 285 pounds; Travis Frederick of Lumen Christi won the conference title at 125 pounds; Lincoln Raczkowski of Western took first place at 130 pounds; Gage Race of Northwest made it three in a row for Jackson County schools with a title at 135 pounds; Western’s Jacob Singleton took the top spot at 145 pounds; Zach Jacobs won the title at 152 pounds for the Mounties; Braden Gariety of Northwest took first place at 160 pounds; Adam Haselius of Northwest took the championship at 189 pounds; and James Nurkka won the title for the Mounties at 215 pounds.
