Be A Hero at the Big House

The University of Michigan's initiative to promote life saving donation, Wolverines for Live, will be conducting an all day event at Michigan Stadium on November 17th.  Director of Development for the University of Michigan Transplant Center Bob Garypie, along with U of M student and Jackson County Rose Queen Emily Sioma promoted the event on today's show.  "Be A Hero at the Big House" will register attendees as organ, tissue, eye and bone marrow donors and conduct a blood drive.  Tours of the stadium and Jack Roth Stadium Club, food and giveaways are part of the day's event from 8am to 6pm.  More details here.  Other guests:  Brian Wheeler, Consumers Energy;  Andy Woell, Builder Walk/General Materials;  Dr. Randy Penn, Penn Chiropractic;  George Veach, Kiwanis Club;  Steve LaFay, Here 4 You Hearing Center;  House of New Beginnings Founder Frances Keane and Board President Mike McGuire.

Mayor-Elect Reacts to Victory

Jason Smith,  elected yesterday as Jackson's new mayor reflected on his victory on today's show.  Smith defeated incumbent Martin Griffin 46% to 34%.  18% of Jackson's registered voters turned out to elect Smith, pass a marijuana decriminalization proposal and return two incumbent councilpersons, Andrew Frounfelker and Dan Greer to their seats.  Newcomer Arlene Robinson will be the other new face on the council, defeating incumbent Michelle Woods.  Smith will take office on December 1.  Other guests:  Maleana Annabel and Maximo Anguiano, Jackson College;  Terry DeDoes and Rich Castle, Consumers Energy and hunter safety;  Jeff and Tina Beagle, Jackson YMCA Turkey Trot;  Pet of the Week with Sue Lovell, Cascades Humane Society.

Chucky’s Week 2 Playoff Picks

Chucky Buckles is having a tough time this week. He’s questioning everything now. He spent Saturday afternoon watching his beloved Michigan Wolverines get de-pantsed by Michigan State, and yet UM Coach Brady Hoke said – other than an assignment or two – the Wolverines were ‘right in there.’ Chucky knows what it’s like to have his hat handed to him and had his nose broken in a boxing match once. Coach Hoke is either doing his best to keep his team up and energized, or someone tonked him in the head with an errant pass. Anyway, here’s how the playoffs look for week #2-   CONSTANTINE (6-4) @ HILLSDALE (7-3): It’s not fair that Constantine loses all those regular season games (4 this year!) and then rolls into Michigan Center and ends the Cardinals season. Just for that, Hillsdale is going to exact some revenge for their Cascades Conference friends to the northeast. Wait, no… hold on a second… that won’t happen. Jackson High Plans “Leaf Relief”

This Saturday from 9am to 3pm, Jackson High School students will be available to rake, bag and pick up leaves from city residents in exchange for donations to the school's "Thanksgiving Giving" food drive project.  Organizer Michael Funkhouser and Principal Barbara Baird-Pauli are encouraging residents who would like leaf pickup to call 784-4124 to make a reservation.  Students will accept donations of non-perishable food or cash towards the annual fundraiser.  Other guests:  Jackson Police Chief Matt Heins, Deputy Fire Chief Dave Wooden and Fire Captain Jason Senft;  Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Dan Evans;  Tom Rooney, Rooney's Sewer, Handyman & Cleaning Service;  Preston Judd, Center State Jackson's "Scrooge, the Musical" lead actor.  The show opens this Friday at 8pm at the Baughman Theatre, Jackson College.

City Treasurer-Clerk Doubles Duty as Band Frontman

City Treasurer-Clerk Andrew Wrozek reminded city voters where and when to vote on Tuesday.  He is predicting a 20% voter turnout, with polls opening at 7am until 8pm.  Polling locations are here.  Wrozek, founding member of The Hy-Notes, is continuing the band's farewell tour with a private event this weekend and a few other performances yet this year.  Other guests:  Steve Sharpe and Roger Maufort, Jackson County NORML;  Sarah Risner and Victoria Beaman, Jackson Junior Welfare League's "Warm the Children" (donations and information on their website here);  Julie Weisbrod, Jackson County Health Department, with Dave Singh and Jack Singh, convenience store owners participating in Healthy Stores Initiative;  Western High School students Wyatt Ruoff, Bailey Shepherd and Ben Coleman, actors in "Beauty and the Beast", opening Wednesday night at 7, continuing Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with matinees on the weekend.

Michigan Center vs. Constantine

Columbia Seeks Bond Approval
