Whether you're making room for a new "football-ready" TV, or you're just doing a bit of cleaning, stop by Consumers Energy’s Parnall complex on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and recycle your old appliances and electronics. The address is 1945 Parnall Road. This year, Consumers Energy is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity and Valley City Recycling. Volunteers from both organizations will be on hand to help handle your recyclables. In addition, we are making a donation of $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity and will add 20 cents for every pound of electronics recycled. Last year, we donated $1,300 to Habitat for Humanity and know we can beat that this year. As part of our Appliance Recycling Program, we are offering $50 rebates for eligible refrigerators and freezers and $15 rebates for eligible window air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Jackson Awarded Grant from Michigan Arts Council

Jackson is one step closer to housing the Glidden Parker mural after receiving $75,000 from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) at their awards ceremony Friday, Sept. 18. MCACA officials reviewed nearly 600 grant applications from around the state before awarding nearly $10 million in grants to recipients including schools, municipalities and museums. Jackson received the highest funding allocation - no awardee received more than $75,000 - and its grant application scored the second highest out of the 462 applicants, second only to the Detroit Institute of Arts. This is the second competitive grant the project has earned after becoming one of 66 projects nationwide to receive a National Endowment for the Arts “Our Town” Grant in July of 2014. “This has been the most difficult season of grant reviews since the days of the Great Recession when there was so little money, now the issue is how to reach as many eligible organizations as possible around the entire state with our increased, albeit still limited, funding,” said MCACA Executive Director John Bracey. The project to build a climate-controlled art gallery for the lighted 9-by-28-foot has now raised $344,000 in committed funds, including $119,000 from the Jackson…

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Sam Riggleman, a 40-year coaching veteran and one of the winningest coaches in NAIA history, has announced that he will retire as head baseball coach at Spring Arbor University following the 2016 season.  “Coach Riggleman has had a profound impact on the lives of so many student-athletes as well as coaches, administrators, faculty members and parents throughout his 40 years of coaching,” said Director of Athletics Ryan Cottingham. “I am grateful for the 14 years we’ve worked together at Spring Arbor University where he’s been a mentor and a friend.”  A two-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Coach of the Year, Riggleman has led the Cougars to a 358-190 (.653) record as the head coach over the past 11 seasons, and made five national tournament appearances, including a national runner-up finish in 2007. Allegiance Partners with 5 Hospitals in Unique Care Delivery Network

Six of Michigan’s leading health systems have come together to form a clinically integrated network designed to deliver high-quality, cost-effective healthcare and improve the health of residents across the state. The founding members of the clinically integrated network include Allegiance Health ,Bronson Healthcare (Kalamazoo), Covenant HealthCare (Saginaw), Lakeland Health (St. Joseph),MidMichigan Health (Midland) and Sparrow Health System (Lansing). Each of these health systems will continue to operate independently; however, together, they will offer the size, scale and scope to develop and deploy evidence-based best practices that will accelerate the transformation to better healthcare value for employers and individuals and sophisticated population health management. A clinically integrated network is a network of providers and health systems collaborating at various points to improve and maintain the health of the residents of their communities. Critical to the success of the network  will be the physician-led, data driven approach to sharing best practices across the state that will allow members to reduce variations in care, lower total healthcare costs and improve the health of patients and communities served by the network. A 12-member Board of Managers was appointed in June to provide strategic direction for the network. Physicians from the member systems comprise 50…
