Lumen Christi Names New Principal

 Stephanie (Spoelstra) Kristovic has been named the new Principal of Lumen Christi Catholic School beginning July 1, 2016.  Stephanie graduated from Lumen Christi in 2004 as the valedictorian of her class.  After leaving high school, she graduated from Miami University, Honors College with a B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics and a B.A. in English Literature. Following her undergraduate degrees, she continued her education with a master’s in Education Administration from Dominican University. In a letter to parents of Lumen Christi students, Lumen Christi President Elaine Crosby wrote: "Mrs. Kristovic’s career has included time “giving back” through the organization Teach for America in the Chicago area.  She continued her career with Perspectives High School of Technology in South Chicago, first as a geometry teacher -- and continuing through the organization to most recently principal of the school." The letter continues, "The core values of Lumen Christi: Live Faith, Achieve Excellence, Develop Character, Be Warm and Welcoming, and Promote Teamwork are part of Mrs. Kristovic’s inherent personality and professional style.  I am very confident that she will be able to continue the tradition of high academic achievement at Lumen Christi Catholic School.  The mission of the school is deeply rooted in her…

Jackson Coffee Co. Owner Donates Full Nascar Sponsorship to Big Brothers Big Sisters

(photo by Ryan Kerwin, JTV) Jackson Coffee Co., in conjunction with its sister company, the Jackson Candy & Fudge Factory, announced today that it has purchased a full sponsorship of the #70 Derrike Cope car at the Xfinity NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway on June 11th.  After purchasing the sponsorship, it then donated the sponsorship to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Jackson County. “We are thrilled to make this purchase and to donate it to such a great cause.  While we could have kept the advertising on the car for our own companies, we wanted to bring awareness to a group of people who do so much to mentor the youth in our community.  We also wanted to bring attention to the needs of the Big Brothers Big Sisters, who have a waiting list of youth who need a partner”  said Brian Surgener, Jackson Coffee Co.’ and Jackson Candy & Fudge Factory’s President.  The car will have a full wrap of the Big Brothers and Big Sister’s logo fully displayed on the hood of the car, and will have both rear quarters of the car saying “Be A Big Brother” on one side and “Be A Big Sister”…

HealthWise Event Offers Free Health Screenings

Jackson College will present the Health Wise Screening Event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3 in the Health Laboratory Center on the Jackson Central Campus. Health Wise provides an opportunity for community members to choose from a variety of health screening services available free of charge. Services to be offered include: ·         Vascular Screenings (by appointment only, call 517.990.1374, Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) ·         Blood Pressure Screening ·         Hearing Clinic with Beltone ·         Cholesterol Testing ·         EKG Screening ·         Pulmonary Function ·         Diabetic Screenings ·         Free Chair Massages After the free screenings, visitors can meet with nurse practitioner Rachel Nichols, who works in the JC Health Clinic and is nationally certified in family practice, to review results and ask any questions. All screenings are performed by trained professionals with assistance from JC students, who are supervised. John Moffitt takes over boys basketball program at Northwest

New Northwest basketball coach says success is on the way   By Mike Moore Staff Writer   Jackson — He vowed to make a difference, to take a struggling culture and turn it into a success story.   Certainly not overnight, or in a one-year span, but with a bit of patience and plenty of hard work, John Moffitt said the Northwest boys basketball program will find itself on competitive footing before long.   Now the journey begins for the first-year Mounties coach.   “I’m very happy to be here,” Moffitt said Monday night, a few days after he was officially named head coach of the boys varsity team. “I’ve taught in this district and been around basketball in this area forever. To me, there’s so many great things going on at Northwest, and having the chance to teach and coach in this district together puts me in a position to be effective with these kids.”   Moffitt’s no stranger to the game, the Jackson area, or Northwest, for that matter.   Moffitt starred at Litchfield until graduating in 1994, then played at Spring Arbor University until 1999.   His coaching career began shortly after that.   He coached varsity…

Nelly & Vanilla Ice to Perform at Jackson County Fair

Hip-hop sensations Nelly and Vanilla Ice have been booked to perform at the Jackson County Fair on Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 at 7 p.m. American rapper, singer, and songwriter Nelly made his debut in 2000, with his Grammy-nominated album Country Grammar, which spent five weeks at #1 on Billboard Top 200.
